OK, I found out what the problem was. Just for the records (in case someone with the same problem comes here):

I restarted the level. I fought all zombies again until I reached the cave with the two guys hiding in there. The cutscene was played. Now it comes: when the cutscene was over I was standing INSIDE the cave now! In my first post here I found myself standing outside the cave and was locked out. So this was a bug! I could have never solved this level. This is a really annoying bug!

BTW: how to restart a level properly?
The only way I could think of was to start the whole game all over again. Then use a cheat to warp to the subway level. First open the console (TAB key) and enable cheats by typing "sissy". Afterwards type "goto ED_Subway2". You'll be warped to the beginning of the subway level inside the running train, where you have to fight your way to the cockpit to press the emergency brake. The problem is that you are completely out of weapons now. So I had to cheat again to get my equipment back. I typed "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" to simply get everything. To overcome the time limit which can be a bit annoying I used the "bullet" cheat to slow down the game.

Still stuck inside the subway level ...

In the platform area of the subway station theres a room full of lockers. In one corner above the lockers I can see a hole where light comes out. Maybe the level continues here?

How can I reach that hole? In the opposite corner of that locker room is a ventilation shaft, blocked by a grate. From one room (kind of a control room) I can enter the ventilation shaft. From there I can crouch through the shaft. There appear to be three possible exits. One of those leads back to the platform area. The other ones are blocked by grates and cannot be opened. Neither by kicking nor by using dynamite.

If the hole in the locker room is the way to continue the level - how can I reach that hole?

Thank you for answering, but I'm sorry. I don't find the place you are writing about. I ran through the whole level for hours now but I don't find a way to the place the zombies broke through the wall.

You remember the sewer? From there I can reach two hallways. One contains tubes from which dangerous steam is blown out. At the end of this hallway there's the cave, blocked by the old door -> dead end
The second hallway leads to a stairway, but the stairs are blocked, because the stairway collapsed -> dead end again.

Where do I have to go from that sewer to reach the place where the zombies broke through the wall?

Dear gamers,

I'm in need of a little help in order to complete the subway level.

I played this level a while and eventually I made it into a cave where two guys are hiding from the zombies. A cutscene was played where the zombies broke through a blocked door. Back into the game I found myself standing outside that cave, but my way inside was now blocked by an old wooden door.

I now walked around that level to find a way into that cave. At one point I found an electrical switchbox on a wall with a sign saying "Subway Power". I kicked it. There were some sparks which usually is a sign that something was initiated, but I couldn't find out what has happened.

Now I don't know what to do next. Can anyone please tell me what to do?
