I have plans to host a server in the future, though there are a lot of issues I will need to work out first.
There is no server to connect players to each other. You can set up a game with someone else over the internet, the host needs to port forward their router and then the clients can input the hosts external IP. I have successfully played over the internet multiple times. There are no separate options for online and LAN.
Update! Version 8
-Fixed error with weapons disapearing
-Fixed errors with rejoining game lobby

I just asked the other guy who had this error and he also has win8. I will try to resolve this error as soon as I can, though it will be difficult since I don't have any win8 computers.
That would most likely be a LAN connection. I still haven't been able to replicate the error, unfortunately. If re extracting doesn't work, also try deleting the game and re downloading from a different location(http://gamejolt.com/games/shooter/block-battle-online/12371/). Try it with different packet frequencies too. Also, what version of windows are you using?
What were the circumstances(Map, packet frequency, over the internet or LAN, weapon, were you the client or host, etc)? Someone else had that error before as well, though I have never been able to replicate it. Also try re extracting the game, I have received reports that this has fixed errors before.
Update! Version 6
-Added force fields
-Made the sniper rifle do more damage relative to how high on the enemy you hit. 1 hit kills are possible
-Created a username system
-Made guns have limited amo supplies
-Increased the range of looking speed on joysticks. Eg, with a high sensitivity setting you can still make subtle adjustments to your direction now
-Made it so you have to hold the swap button down for a small amount of time before picking up a new weapon
-Made weapons disapear and respawn
-Made it so players spawn away from enemies
-Decreased the amount of health that enemy shards give you
-Switched from 39DLL to faucet networking
-added support for up to 8 players at once
-Revised map to better accommodate more players
-improved button text
-added waiting lobby for hosts to collect players and choose when to start
I will be working on a server after I add some more maps and game types.
