Empire At War Remake: Galactic Civil War

Mod review

This is hands down the most impressive mod I have ever seen, period. I have played this game since it came out. At that time, I marvelled at the graphics and the thrill of seeing capital ships square off. I remember being amazed at the detail when you zoomed in on the large ships and saw windows!

That was 2007. While this game will always be special to me, vanilla EAW doesn't hold up so well anymore. Jeroenimo's mod gives me that amazing feeling all over again. I lose battles because I am sitting staring slack jawed at my screen. In this game, all of a ships guns are matched up with individual turrets that track their own targets. Missles, particle effects, and shields look amazing. On top of that he did a fantastic job adding new balance to the factions, especially the pirate warlords who now give you a decent challenge.

There are issues with the mod, but they are not Jeroenimos. It can be tricky to run on steam, but if you follow the guide it is workable. I play on Steam myself and was frustrated at first, but by following the new guides you can get it playing. Besides that the only issues are the occasional lag you will see in large battles, but this is a fault of the game client, not the mod. It happens in other mods like Thrawn's Revenge, and even in the base game if the conditions are right.

My wife told me today she hates the music from this game now, because she knows when she hears it i'll be up all night. She is right. Thanks for giving us the sequel to this game we never had otherwise.

I took some screenshots of a couple recent battles playing as the rebels for those who are interested:
