Anyway I was gonna advise you about your issue.
"I had the same probblem when installing it on my brand new pc. The game's updater would stop halfway. I decided to download the tsl windows vista fix from filefront. After that I found I still had some issues when starting a new game, so I looked up the official updater patch (a and b) on the lucasarts site.
After updating with those patches I then changed the properties of the game shortcut to "run as administrator", followed by trying on minimum graphics settings and also changing the compatibility back to windows 2000. After this it worked perfectly like it once did on my old laptop.
Also if you ever used the KSE (kotor save editor) then make sure to match the same compatibility for the KSE as your tsl game is set to (and run on administrator etc), otherwise the changes that you apply on the kse cheat editor won't work.
