I'm not so sure they were trying to undermine the modders but one thing is for sure, I also would like to see them spending a bit more time creating new campaigns.

Anyway, I fixed my DBD copy... at least I think so. I didn't have time to test it through yet but it should work just fine since I followed CosmicD's instructions.

I just realized that this was actually posted by CosmicD on Steam forum.

The below was taken from Steam forum:

"Right, this info is for l4d1 users only!

There has been some confusion on the sound issues that people have had since the sacrifice DLC came out.

People reported that snd_rebuildaudiocache does no longer work and they are right, because it is now obsolete (it would put a soundcache in the maps folder and it's not even read from there anymore.)

Sounds for each repository (like valves dlc dir, main dir and sound dirs from campaigns in the addon dir) are being read from sound cache files inside those root dirs now...

This means that each campaign must now include a sound.cache file inside their /sound dir that they include with the campaign. This cache plugs with the existing ones and can be read as you install the campaign. This system has been in l4d2 for certain months now and it's now also in effect for l4d1."

So in fact Valve fixed the game and didn't break anything. Now not only people don't have to waste their time with rebuilding the soundcache but also there will be no sound interference/mix up between installed campaigns which was also a common problem. The only problem is that all the old campaigns will have to be reuploaded with their own soundcache or the soundcache file could be uploaded and injected into a VPK (if someone knows how to do it). Fixing their game is priority for any company, the custom content from 3rd party is secondary. The thing is that when a company doesn't fix their game people complain... when they do fix it people still complain.

Yeah, 7z is a good compression. The same dbd file on the L4DMaps is (I believe) in ZIP format and the size of it is almost 500MB.

"well, romeros dawn of the dead is too oldschool. ive never been a friend of it."

Well, it is over 36 years old, and only true fans of the genre are able to appreciate it. Nothing will change the fact that it is the original and all the others are "remakes" or "copies". George A. Romero is the "father" of modern flesh eating zombies.

"im pretty sure, without the remake and 28 days later we wouldnt play now l4d. :P"

And I'm pretty sure that without the "remake" and "28 days later" the fans of horror/zombie games would still play L4D. Those movies were not that important. We just wouldn't be playing your campaign since it's based on a remake. And I'm also pretty sure that without George A. Romero there would be no "remake" or "28 days later" or similar or even games like this, since he is the creator of zombie as we know it today.
