GameMaker Studio

Engine review

Game maker is a very nice 2d engine. I find myself using it all the time. The Gamemaker scripting language (GML) is very easy to learn, even for people who have never programmed before, and if you're not up for it there's even a drag'n'drop system. The engine comes with all you need to get started, it's pure plug'n'play! YoYo games has a very good and helpfull community wich will help you out form alot of trouble. There's alot of free engines submittet and awesome free to use code wich will make development much smoother and shave down a lot of the time spent.

I do have a few complaints though:

* Physics coding is hard as ****. I once tried to do an extendable rope, but it took me waaay to long so I had to give up on that game, but it might just be my current skill limitations...

* The level/room editor can get sort of annoying at times when you have to drag objects around the room

* I think the collision system is too much trouble and can be rather unpredictable at times

I think that's really it and my thoughts of the engine, all in all I'd say it's the way to go for 2d game development!
