just curious, did Valve fix the aiming on 3rdperson as well?

yes Official servers do not support custom content VPK's ( part of the Valve's anti-hacking preventative BS ) , nor do Dedicated servers that don't include them in their whitelist. so basically if you want to hear Bilian's custom music & sounds on these servers - you have to choose the "manual install" version - but don't forget to back up the original files!!!
wouldn't it be better to have the original survivors on the L4D2 version as well? with Francis saying "I hate Malls" and all...?
erm... what I meant is this: quick solution = you guys do the sound cache file, share it, and we can add it to the rest of the vpk contents (rebuilding the whole vpk) thus its just a few kbites we have to download instead of the ~375Megs
how about this quick and temporary solution: you just upload the cache file - which measures a few kbites - and let us apply it to the vpk? (extracting - rebuilding)
but this is the point exactly - imho a custom campaign doesn't have to follow the L4D story telling schematics! well on coop at least. Take eg. Cold Case or Military Index Complex - the most crazy side missions and story elements in L4D universe and this is why they are the most unique as well. Add these little thing (like IHM achieved it perfectly) and it will feel like rather a Story (especially with CJ commenting on the players move) than a campaign with custom contents and conjoining maps where you fight zombie hordes.
and yes of course, versus is an another piece of cake, but I reckon the versus maps can be detached from the storytelling coop ones and this problem can be solved.
good job so far fixing the bugs, and a very entertaining finale ;) but even with its flaws, for some parts I prefer the beta version: I really miss those little things hidden in it, like the TV commercials, spoofs, poster comedies or the opening credits, the aforementioned food court mission or Office puzzle, not to mention the all favourite 'torn-in-half' security guard keycard mission with(!) the time limit. without these the whole picture seemed so incomplete, great campaign though - just felt a little bit disappointed...
just a hint about the snd_rebuildaoudiocache - you might wanna put a README file along with the vpk into the rar file so people will notice, cause the random guys I've played with didn't know about it either...
so... what about www.l4dmods.com ? ;)
Okay, I've made some neat zipped-in VPKs: one for the main game sound&music (765,5MB), one for The Passing DLC sound&music (100,3MB), and one for the Midnight Riders posters&props Skins (6MB)! Now all it needs is a place to upload them... :)
PS - about the sizes: I used 7zip, because it had the best results on shrinking down the files, plus its a free app.
I'm sorry, somehow I always mix those 2 word up: I meant the sound cache - this update:
" Authoring Tools
- VPK files now support their own sound.cache file.
- Use the command "snd_buildsoundcachefordirectory " to create the sound.cache file that you should include when you create your vpk file. "
Sure, I'll be glad to help out if I can, but the credit should go to you, you're the one who done the hard part - I just merely fiddled with the files ;)
did I read that correctly? version 1.1 coming up after Sacrifice DLC? yeeey! Also I was wandering if the new VPK built-in sound chase applies to this mod also...
A DL section that doesn't work because of the ISP in 2010? That's a shame!!!
But, then again, it's not like that l4dmods is the ONLY site they can release this mod on...
I guess then that will be the same day when l4dmods will have a new and working download section again. ^-^
I think I found a solution to enable the sound in a VPK format, its a little unorthodox, but I reckon this will do until Valve comes up with a support for a more convenient way:
so
1, I separated the Passings sound files/folders ( left4dead2_dlc1 ) from the rest of the mod
2, renamed the sound folder left4dead2_dlc1 to pak02_dir
3, made a VPK out of it -> pak02_dir.vpk (no addoninfo)
4, copied this pak02_dir.vpk to the games's ...\left 4 dead 2\left4dead2_dlc1\ folder
5, It works! :D
Of course it's not as convenient as a real Addon VPK, eg. if you want to disable it you have to either delete the pak02_dir.vpk or move it, or maybe rename it.
the trick is, you must apply the snd_rebuildaudiocache command in console after you added the VPK, and presto!
I've already done that, ever since this great mod came out :)
for the basic game it's a fairly simple procedure, although this is a biggie (around 855MB - just the sounds) the system can handle it. one will have the luxury to turn it On and Off at will. I have yet to figure out a way to make vpks to the Passing DLC.
