Nebulas have electricity not forming as lightning, but as static electricity traveling across the clouds, in 3 dimensions. Basically what occurs inside a cloud, not out of one. From a distance, it would look like blue flashes or strobes.

You would actually be able to hear the sounds as your weapons fire or as things hit your ship because they actually have something to travel across. I think that'd be awesome, frankly.

For example, you would hear the missile leave the ship, but nothing else. It would be like "Fpssh" and then silence. Also, explosions in space are a really bright light and then a rapid expansion of it's contents (gas, shrapnel); almost too fast for a human too see.
