Yeah, clivewil helped me out with it, he is so nice. Baking the textures really adds a nice final touch to a texture. Its basically 'pre-painting' on shadows to your model. You render the image in 3dMax and than add it as a layer in photoshop. It adds depth to the surface. With out it, a model/texture will look pretty flat. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it. This is the radar set that I posted a screen shot of last week on the IDF mod site.
