Interesting game, shows a lot of promise. Had trouble starting at first, but I solved it by trying to start the game from a console, which returned that files were missing, finding which packages contained the files, and installing them. For me the missing files were libsdl-mixer1.2, and libsdl-ttf2.0-0

I had the same problem. Solved it by installing some missing sdl libraries. Open a console and try running the game directly, if it returns that files are missing try searching for the packages that install those files.
