Happy to oblige! Never have, never will, come hell or high water!
There's a new little vlog on Youtube speaking of the journey, going to make one every week for as long as it can be sustained. Hopefully no further misadventures for a long time. You can check it out here: Youtube.com

And then there's all the other links you can find in the Youtube description. Discord, etc. Definitely feel free to join us, at least if I disappear again it'll be easy for you to know what's up haha.

Long story short, after a dry long spell of not communicating much at all, I'm getting back on top of things.

Thank you! 2020 has been a really messed up year. Due to a bunch of unfortunate developments related to covid and our "partners", we had to sort of dig in and go underground to pretty much start rebuilding everything and ensuring the game does not end up sacrificing any of its promises. The bad news is that it's taken us through another jungle and it has delayed stuff some more. The good news is, we are now multiplayer-capable and have successfully built one of the biggest systems in the game (the one related to the character's lifepath, legacy and offspring, and overall story generation). It's all taking a ton of time and it's all behind the scenes without a lot of communication, but know that it's all going that way to ensure that we don't have to make compromises on the original vision and (very tall) promises that we made. Some of the claims I staked all those years back in terms of ambitions were pretty much crazy, but I always believed in them 100% and it's out of the question that I should back down and deliver less. I quite probably won't make the best RPG, but I sure as hell went all in to make something really deep, rich and satisfying, that you should literally be able to play near endlessly while getting a big payoff in terms of feeling as though you are building your own saga.

So that's where we are. Still working hard, a bit too hard maybe, sacrificing maybe too much as well... but we gotta deliver. We will deliver.

Thanks a lot for the words of encouragement. They're well appreciated! It's an epic journey for sure and while I never doubted that I would see to it to the very end, sometimes I was less than sure of what state I'd end up in. Thankfully, that kind of single-mindedness is rewarded, but the true reward will be to make something that enraptures and fulfills you people!

Thank you. The approach here is somewhat different as we're going for something with high artistic value and not releasing until it's done, but the guy's work on Kenshi is definitely admirable. He's truer to what I've been to my initial inspiration: when I saw that Mount & Blade was made by two people I thought "it's feasable, then" and it's pretty much what eventually tipped me over into getting started. The plan for Winterfall was to go for scaled releases over time, like M&B did, or Kenshi eventually did. I love that he did it, it's legendary stuff.

Hah, let's see how we (eventually) deliver on that slow trickle of diluted hype! Cheers

Thank you very much. It's really been a bit of hell, and a bit of heaven also and for sure a journey of personal transformation. I have no doubt that while the last stretch is coming, it's still going to be a steep climb so I'm bracing for that. This site is where everything changed for this project (it's through it that the first big opportunities/validations turned up), so thank you for building and running it and thank you for the kind words!

Hello there, and sorry for the very, very late reply. Yes, the game has been delayed indefinitely has there has been some structural (read business, funding, etc) changes to the way it is being run, which are still in the process of settling down. Personally, I'm still hoping we can make a 2020 release but if it takes further delay to make a solid release of the product I've spent the past 6 years on my life on, then so be it. It's a situation where I'm on the one hand frustrated that we keep delaying (at great cost to myself), but at the same time, it's for the best for everyone (the game, the players, and me), so I gotta roll with it.

Hello there,
Well, it's a lot of things packed into one game. It's not a multiplayer survival game a la Rust or DayZ, that's for sure, but there are survival components: hunting, camping, weather mechanics, etc. At the same time, there is definitely a strong exploration-adventure dimension a la Zelda but also a building/rebuilding component. It's very hybrid.

Hey there Eddie!
Thank you for the post. And yes indeed, it's going pretty well. Never as fast as we'd like, but we're literally moving mountains with our little hands, so bear with us for the slowness and delays. The good news is that the game keeps on gaining in depth and scope, and not in the bad way, more like, we are enjoying increasingly supportive circumstances enabling us to keep pushing things as far as we've been. Given the way 2018 has gone (and again, despite the delays and hurdles) I'm really, really optimistic.
Thank you again. Stay tuned! And if you have facebook, join us there, it's updated a bit more frequently than here: www.facebook.com/winterfallgame

Hey there! We've been more active on Facebook (and a little on Twitter), where there's been a fait bit of engagement. With a project this (big) scope and a team this (small) size, it's been a little difficult keeping up with all platforms. But things are going well and are moving towards a string of releases (test phases up until release)! We'll be ramping up communication a fait bit starting now.

Thank you! I was never sure why we can't have the best of every world! Strategy management elements in an rpg, deep character development in a sandbox, sandbox elements with action gameplay... everything all rolled into one!

Hey there, thanks a lot for the warm reception. As I've said everywhere else, I'm working really hard to bring this to fruition and will never relent until it's out there and fun, which fortunately is in fact getting closer and closer. So stay tuned, thanks again and take care!

Apologies for the delay in responding, been very busy!

The game is going somewhere between realistic and fantasy. No magic and monsters, but you'll still get some fantasy creatures and beings now and then, as well as some fantasy-ish situations. It's somewhere beneath the low fantasy threshold but over the realism threshold.

When it comes to animal encounters, you'll get reptiles, mammals, birds and fish to catch, as well as insects (including some large ones); hopefully aquatic fauna as well. The thing is to not make it banal to "fight stuff", so let's say when you encounter a bear or get a pack of wolves chasing you, you'll most of the time look for other ways to make it than to just fight them.

Critters making the land more alive are also in perspective but not yet on the table as we are solving some hardcore challenges at the moment.

As for animal husbandry, we're not there yet although it's a possibility. There's a lot that's to be done about the development element in the game (there's that part about rebuilding the world after all) so we have to figure out our exact boundaries when it comes to how far things can go.

That being said, thank you for the interest!

Hello, and thank you!
For us, that shouldn't amount to more than adding a few lines of code and an ui box to tick on or off, so I'd say sure.

Oh yeah, patience is chief among virtues! Even for me, who's leading this, Winterfall being basically the only game I want to play now... having to wait as it gradually takes shape through its successive incarnations is sometimes fairly excruciating!

It's either going to be premade jump points, or jumping like in Battlespire where you could "project" a cursor by holding a key and then, releasing the key, you would jump to destination.

Right now, the jumping is pretty open (jog or run and click, there's a delay between two jumps) but I never liked the "mad jumping around" so it's not going to stay that way.

There's also the fact that I don't want to have to manage falling because for that kind of game, it's just not interesting to drive the character to its death, by miscalculation or deliberate choice, and I don't want to have to handle "death" that way (or "death" at all, things regarding "misadventure" are set up a bit differently in Winterfall).

Likeliest at this point is lots of premade jump points that you have to discover and a choice, at character-building, of different extents of jump ability. It's reasonably easy to set up and eliminates the experimental jumping and dying that I hate so much in games.
