Thanks ^^, you can, this is 4k (always paint in that, finished is 2k). What i do is exporting the painted height map in 8k, reimporting the normal map of the export and put it into the normal slot, with that a 2k normal map looks like a 4k.
It works for 1k too but i would try to test paint in full white or black first, i paint with a value of 0.4/ -0.4 and with that 1k looks less strong with 8k normal maps after that i bake the other maps in 8k too, gives a clean look with 1k or 2k finished maps
a single 2k map is really the max I'm willing to put on a unit of this size personally, if EA were to make a new EaW that can handle more than 2 gb of tex memory I'd put it higher though, this stuff looks epic in 4K
Absolutely excellent detail. I wish I could slap that texture resolutions to my ships! #jealous.
