Haruhi is a "God", yet she doesn't know it. Her attitude is rather "rotten", shes lonely, likes to boss around, etc. She doesn't have friends, and all she cares is to meet aliens, specters, time travelers, etc.
Her consciousness created the world, including what she most wishes (the aliens, etc.), finally a (normal) guy is able to be-friend her and is pited in the middle of those "creatures" Haruhi created, wich are now studying Haruhi (without her knowledge), if she finds out all this exist and she is a God, the world might end.
Haruhi ends up creating a SOS Brigade school group, wich is meant to investigating paranormal manifestations, and ends up recruting every single of those creatures she created (alien, specter and time traveler, and her new (boy-)friend).
The story goes around the poor guy miss-adventures between all those "creatures" and Haruhi bossing him around.
It's one of the best animes and mangas i've seen really.
She has nothing to do with Lucky Star, but both Haruhi and Konata are currently the "most" famous girls on the internet, so there are many arts mixing both.

Seriously? I look at few pics of her and her friends and the shows looks somewhat like another lucky star but with more characters in it.
