The game freaks out a little when your monitor doesn't support a resolution that high. We're working on a 640x480 mode that should be available in the next few weeks.

You're going to need to unzip the file. There's a tutorial on youtube: Youtube.com
Then go into the new folder and run uqm.exe (or uqm with the green spaceship). Hope that helps!

Windows XP should be fine. I've even ran it fine on Windows 8. The biggest issue is your monitor has to be capable of running 1280x960. Any monitors running 1080p or higher should be fine.

We're doing everything we can to update this game so it matches the visual quality of 2D games coming out today. The story is great, so we're not touching it. :)

@megas Don't worry, we've got some surprises in store for you when the full game comes out.
