I played the original. It doesn't compare to Black Mesa (however there was a large action-packed surface-tension section removed). Still, Black Mesa is the best half life 2 mod I have played (and I have played a lot).
I look forward to the Xen episode of the BM mod as it explains a lot of HL2's vortigaunt-friendly story.
