Conmiester - - 69 comments @ Shadow over the Pathoras 2 DEMO 2024

Ever since I remember playing the first Shadow over the Pathoras a long time ago (and didn't finish it for whatever reason), I thought Shadow over the Pathoras II would never see the light of the day until I didn't expect it get revived recently.

I gave the updated demo a try last night on Hero difficulty and it was an enjoyable experience. The maps and the combat plays well but, is it intentional to not have HUD weapon sprites for the bow? Trying to tell if the bow is ready to shoot is unpredictable. Other than that, I found no issues despite I was a bit annoyed to not being able recognize certain spots to use the pickaxe but it's my fault on my end.

That being said, I hope this sequel comes to fruition as if it gets enough feedback to mark it's future than without it.

I just finished playing the whole mod and I really enjoyed it. I dig the combat and the RPG mechanics, it is uniquely well made. I may replay it around this year since I found myself fond to it.

Though, I have found some issues in lvl 27:
1. Sudden freeze for a seconds and everything went back to normal. Not sure how it happened.
2. When I killed a shark, the mod crashes.

I ran out of ideas to add more about Mage's wand so this is what I had so far. I could say the same about spicing weapon animations for every other weapons especially the Sidhe's (Heretic player class) weapons, it's also something that I have not figured out yet, anyway.

I played through the whole mod and I really enjoyed it for the most part. Although, as much I remember the 2007 version, I felt underwhelmed over 2 things such as the lack of something new for the church section, and Thamuz fight itself. While I appreciate the new effects that you put into for Thamuz, the whole thing is just circle-strafe which it just lost the charm that the 2007 had.

I could pinpoint about other things but I think Gaia74 already covered it so, there's that.

Glad that it's still being fixed since it came out few days ago. I could have played it as soon it releases but I was pretty distracted with other games with a few friends of mine and working on my Wolfenstein mod lately.

Besides that, I'll give it a try when it gets patched.

Just played the demo on Death Incarnate difficulty and I enjoyed it so far. I played the original version a long time ago but, it's really nice to see the Second Encounter make it's place as a addon for Brutal Wolfenstein.

Hope to see the final product of this addon, someday.

I was a long fan of Wolf3D during my young days and have played multiple mods from DOS to SDL which overtime, it gave me a dream of creating a mod from originally SDL port until I decided to switch to GZDoom instead.

Besides that thing I mentioned, I appreciate the comment.

Demo release is already being planned but I cannot say when since I'm still working on it solo and it hasn't been really easy which it explains why progress has been real slow for a long time now.

I remember the times of playing this mod along with several custom prototype style maps (that are supported) and some friends of mine. As much I loved the ZCT series, I do appreciate what Special Combat offers to this day.

Thank you for uploading this mod to this site and now I can replay this mod with this 10th anniversary edition for more than just nostalgia reasons.

Just finished the demo version of this mapset while using the intended gameplay mods and vanilla-equivalent weapons on Ultra-Violence difficulty. Since I've enjoyed the Legend-9 maps from Hexen, This one did not disappoint me. Considering it utilizes GZDoom features this time, It's already looking amazing and I look forward what are the rest of the maps will look like when it's done.

Also... w h y stealth monsters. Admittedly, it caught me off guard a few times but using them is just rather nasty sometimes.

Well, well, what do we have here? Another god damn sycophant who have noticed the recent shitshow that happened in ZDoom Fourms lately and have decided to post all of this propaganda BS here? You know what, I'm not surprised at this point.

As a ZDoom modder who just make mods for fun without having this damned belief, all I can say is: "Equality/Diversity", my ***.

Ah, well, I couldn't find a proper word to say it since my memories with Legend has mostly become vague at this point and I have been spending both of my efforts and time on an ambitious mod for hexen named The Land of the Serpent Riders nowadays (which I can explain what it is about if interested or already knew since).

Hope it all goes well since I've been looking forward to re-play Hexen Legend 9 properly, especially on Windows 10 since I heard that it uses modern version of Doomsday, thankfully.

Not going to lie, this fork actually intrigued me since I had some issues over my personal experiences from the 2014 build for DarkPlaces a long time ago. As a modder, I want to give it a try since I'm more interested to make my Wolfenstein TC mod in there but still remained unsure where to get it started in all honesty.

As much I'd like to get started but, I still don't know how to set my mod up, let alone getting all of my stuff converted to my mod for DarkPlaces.

I previously played this map couple of times last year ago but I couldn't make much of a thought of it for the time until recently. Anyway, The demo version is pretty good. I really dig the aesthetics which I could say the same with the gameplay and the map is just really nicely made. The bonus area is a pretty nice touch after 100% everything and I wish there will be more in the future.

I hope you continue working on this despite it has been almost a year later after the demo version was released.

Honestly, I'm still serious about the heretic remake except like I said, idk when will I get to that when I'm actually done with the said gameplay mods someday. I'm actually surprised with that note which I wasn't really expecting but I think it can help with the ideas I'd like to consider regardless of the map qualities. Either way, I look forward to see what it looks like.

As for the screenshot, I may be wrong but this definitely looks like Hexen: Curse of the Demon Lord. It's unfinished but it's still playable and you can find it in Doomworld Fourms.

Conmiester - - 69 comments @ Fighting for Darkmere, Part II: perfectionist at heart.

This is a interesting little fact and that I can somewhat relate to. A year ago, I kind of wanted to remake Heretic and Hexen maps with some GZDoom tech but, I realized that I'm nowhere motivated to do any mapping stuff than tinkering both of Heretic and Hexen's gameplay the most. I decided to abandon those ideas and focus on 2 gameplay mods until I'm done with that someday.

Anyway, getting inspirations always helps and after I seen mostly all of the images and video previews that were updated, I still think that this is probably one of the best looking mapsets for Hexen, albeit a pretty special one since your remaking the original Hexen and Deathkings maps with a different style. Even against the superior tech, it is still genuinely impressive and it does give me some ideas to consider from well, you know, that remake idea I just mentioned.

Conmiester - - 69 comments @ Brutal Wolfenstein 3D V 6.5-Spear of Destiny Early Access

Pretty good early access version of Spear of Destiny episode which some of the level's architecture amazes me but I have discovered an issue during my first playthrough. In 10th map of Spear of Destiny which it's the Barnacle Wilhelm boss, I could not manually reload any of the weapons which it made pretty annoying moments especially in the Trans Grosse arena.

In all honesty, do what you wanna do, even dealing with the technical limits. While I have not used Doomsday for a long time and the mod as well, I'm still astonished with the amount of effort you put into the levels. I wouldn't recommend switching to GZDoom at this point, really.

Yeah, I think the real issue is that people just simply forget about Rise of the Triad in general. That may not say the same for Return of the Triad for granted but, who really knows which both could already have same fate. Quite frankly, Return of the Triad is superior thanks to ZDoom/GZDoom engine and having more freedom to make actual maps or heck, new actual content from ranging to enemies to guns.

Maybe someday in the future, I could make some but perhaps, time will tell since I have some plate to deal with for heretic.

Conmiester - - 69 comments @ Spirit Falcon - EXPANSION PACK - Release v1.1

Just finished the second expansion as a thief set on normal difficulty, no double damage amulet (again) and level 10 in a few hours. It became a fantastic experience, as much I enjoyed Pharaoh's Judgement V1.1, this one is a no exception with it's unique theme, and world setting. Surprisingly enough, It really feels like an inspiration from Alpha/Beta and Retail of Classic Shadow Warrior which it fits fine in the end. On the difficulty side, it's definitely an improvement from the 1st expansion, the enemy variety got better, some of them are pretty unique and they do sometimes provide some sort of challenge here and there.
With that being said, here are 3 issues I found during the 1st playthrough:

-After getting the final weapon part from Shaded Village and upon entering Satsuma Castle, there's this message: P_StartScript: Unknown script "fugitiviemove"
-A little grammar issue in the first sentence of the last dialogue with Traveler Satsuki before ending the game, "I'll will escort you to your ship."
-In Yanagi Castle level, somehow 2 sentinels on the 3rd small pillar from left to right that is close to the castle's entrance get stuck together.

Perhaps I'll find out more issues in second playthrough later but that's all I discovered for now.

Short but a sweet and solid looking map, it feels like a proper custom level for the first time ever (I think). I'm really surprised that there isn't any user-made maps for Return of the Triad for a long, long time until I found it today despite it was released 4 months ago. This is a blessing thing to behold, Although I wonder if there would be a full fledged custom mapset/episode someday.

It's a real damn shame, to be honest. I thought HoT (uHexen2) port would have lived to Quake's modern port standards but, after I see this post about this issue then It seems I was wrong after all. If the outcome of asking those who worked on HoT don't have any solutions to make the maps playable without reaching the engine limits, then this mod is just done for as far I'm concerned. Though, from here: Perhaps, time will tell and see other methods that could be done.
