The Soviet Union lost 48 million men and women in the second world war and the vast majority of those were murdered by fellow Soviets at Josef Stalin's command. Stalin was a madman of epic proportions well topping the sadistic nature of and damage done by Adolph Hitler. Before Lenin died he stated that Stalin was unstable and should not be allowed to take control of the party. Once Stalin found out about this he had Lenin's chosen successor Leon Trotsky hunted down and assassinated using an ice pick.
i think ur facts arent clear, the soviet union onleh lost twenty million and it cudntve been that the majority wer killed by soviets themselves, though deserters and cowards wud be shot. and stalin was NOT madman by any means, just read a couple quotes and ull see he was full of wisdom
Ahhh but 20 million was the number maintained by the Soviets until 1996 when they released the legitimate figures. The 20 million were war casualties (including those slaughtered by the NKVD), but the rest were the Officers and enlisted men and women executed in the military purge by Stalin after the Soviet attack on Finland prior to Operation Barbarosa and those executed during and after the war for "crimes against the State". In fact the main reason the Wehrmacht was so successful on teh Eastern Front is that nearly all of Stalin's Officer Corps was dead and there was almost no Veteran leadership to man the defense.
My facts are quite clear... well studied throughout my life as my Grandparents escaped Georgia just after the Communist Revolution and avoided being some of the "broken eggs to make an omelet".
