This made me laugh a bit, that's not how security works at all and you can't set a "hacker timer" like it's a game, they are going to need a 512 or bit encryption or higher, at the current time only the best hackers in the world can get through a 512, but only the best programmers can set one up to!
Firewalls simple block out unknown IP's from access a system or network, a simple proxy is all it takes to get past them, no matter how many you have!

I think it's quite realistic assuming the player was tall and slim, similar to my own body type

Currently Nano Technology is the only way to go, the only other way would be to use high power radiation to effectively do the same thing but then we are looking at brain damage and cancer :L
And in a perfect world that's how it would work, but it's not, Fully Immersive Virtual Reality will take a much bigger toll on a person under mental stress than any normal game! there fore it will be deemed dangerous because simply put, humans are weak minded, and people will find it hard to adjust between worlds!

What you are missing is the fact this technology already exists with all these function, simply put, it is currently illegal due to those reason, but the research is still going on to make it safe, when you think about it wasn't to long ago people where saying that same thing about computers then selves, it's all just future si-fi until it's made, it's a matter of a waiting game as of now

I posted a similar comment a few pages back, but it think you missed some of the key parts of this. I've been doing allot for research in to the electronics behind current technology working with fully immersive virtual reality. There is no risk of our brains not being able to cope, that not how it works.
It will cut off our nerve system from the rest of our core functions such as movement and the 5 senses via nano bot technology that rest on the brain, then these nanobots can read what signals that go into them and use them as triggers for many thing, such as movement, the same way we use WASD in any other game.
The biggest issues are 3 things.
1. A malfunction caused by a number of factors that could disconnect the nanobots before reversing the paralysis effect.
2. The reverse hack... this means that people on the other side of the server could control what we see hear and feel ect, this could end badly in many ways.
3. The psychological effects on the brain in weak minded humans(sounds harsh, but true). Some people could get too use to being in the virtual world and start to reject the real world. It has happened before and that was just with dreams...
And that is not the only issue with it, people living alone could simply never want to leave and die from dehydration and so many other issue related to the psychological effects it could have.

In order for it work, the people playing would have to be tested by the system before entering so that if they are mentally unstable in anyway it would simply kick them form the game, but even that only solves a few issues!

As much as i agree with your point of the legal matters behind the invention of a nerve gear like technology, every thing else in the world has been through the same. Think of something as simple as a car, you think people where like "oh yeah great idea, do down side", no, people die every day in car accidents, but they make cars as safe as they can be by testing for year and years, we have 3-5 years for it to be developed and in that time it will be tested and fixed accordingly, everything can be made safe once you put the right precautions in place.

That would make it easier in the long run for me, but the issue is that this will be used for anything using voice control in the game, and having to get each person to calibrate every work in the dictionary may be taking it a bit far, even though it would work allot better in the end xD

The cryengine free version allows you to make games, once a game is made if they deem it good enough they will allow you to purches a Indie lisence

It's all one in the same, i've got to get it working with basic commands that allow me to start batch files. once i've got that i've got to work on implementing it into cryEngine.
As far as the Link Start command goes that will work depending on how the nerve gear works, in the anime it accually worked on sensing the brain waves when the person says linkstart, not via a microphone

Thanks! Yeah the main issue is that the other programmers seem to be using CryDevC++ when i would much prefer to be using CryMonoC#. So I'm using VC++ to make a native application that can run in the background of the program once its started, think way it can be used for any other Voice Control needs in other parts of the game.
Ofc this is just a theory, i may have to try and implement it into CryDevC++ and re-build it in Cry Engine which im not to familiar with as most of my work has been done using Unity3D.

Not sure how to post a company update so I'm going to put it here xD
Update On Voice Recognition:

Hit into some issues using .NET Framework on my PC, seems that there are some corrupted files that I've never had to use until now so i'm working on sorting it.
I've still been working on this at work when ever I get some spear time and managed to use C++ to make a basic trigger event based on basic words (such as making a colour change by saying a colour name).
Currently working on using voice to trigger the activation of a batch file (e.g. say "Link Start" and run a batch file that will start an exe. file!)
Last thing, Work is picking up and I'm going to have to travel abroad for business so my work rate will slow down quite allot for the next few week :(

My main thought is priority, I work for a games dev company, in fact im at work right now! and one thing ive learnt is to make sure you have all your assets first.
We should prioritise near gear and it security which by extension will fund the rest of the project, this is just my view from a professional background.
Also we should need a 256 bit encryption as a minimum, which is currently one of the best forms of security that we can achieve, yes this is still hackable so we would have to set up multi-walls to cover back ends and hire white-hats to tests it! luckily I can help there as one of my jobs is networking and security and hacking is part of this!

I know what you mean and i completely agree, as i said i'm one of the developers working on this currently, sadly i can't do allot for it as i work full time but i do what i can.
My main point was that if they are planning on making there own version of nerve gear, I personally would focus purely on that for the simple reason that in the time it takes to get the legal and security issues sorted you could make a game as you're looking at at least 1-2 years for legal clearance.
Also you must realise that if they really get it working it will be one of the biggest steps in technology in history, that won't be over looked so quickly, i mean we are talking about this company going from "indie" to worth millions!
I think they should carry on as they are but focus more on that creation as any funding you would ever need for anything ever would be easily gained once that has been invented!

First, don't get me wrong, I'm currently working with Argus and what this game to come out as much as you do! But i would like to point something out here.
The idea of nerve gear is not to have us moving around in real life and wearing a head set with a screen.
The technology already exists and has been testing in animals using Nanotechnology. This works but injecting Nanobots into the blood stream which then settle on the brain at key points, they then interrupt our nerves that connect to our 5 senses and also out movement, this renders us paralysed, then the nano-bot sends its own singles that is coming from the game so that our 5 senses are getting electrical signals from the game world, then other other nano-bots can register when we try and move our real body, they then intercept the signal and send a call to the game, this allows us to move in the game world like we would in real life.
Sounds great until you think about the down sides.
Some issues could be, a power failure causing the user to disconnect from the game and be left paralysed, second, these signals are 2 way streams, if we can control the game world with out body's, people can control our body's via a game world.
and Third, with this technology using the internet, it could be hijacked and could force people to see/smell/feel ect what ever they wanted, even cause enough mental pain to cause heart attacks.
This kind off technology will not be allowed near the public as the law will consider it a weapon. Until we can make much more secure networks and all networks using this can be monitored by government officials 24/7 it can't be released.
As i said though, i'm am even working on this project a bit, i want it to come out, but these are facts at he current time.

Just like in the anime though you could have guilds of people working together, meaning that the "killers" never have to go near towns and other get them resources, also in the anime the Red/Orange markers where only there for a limited time. I personally think that yes, keep crime in, but don't allow Deadly combat with out consent, have 2 duel types, Safety on and Safety off so people can fight that way. The details about this games release are very hazey at the moment (To be excepted) but if this game is a paid monthly or even just pay for the game, people won't want to play a game with the risk of loosing every thing in a way they can't control. At least if people wish to do a Deadly duel no one can complain.
But this does raise an interesting concept of punishment, for example we can steal in the game, if we get seen we get an orange marker, but what if we get caught? Maybe a jail system or a fine to be paid, we could even throw in Community Service xD
Also whos job would it be to inforce law? maybe it could simply be a guild of the front liners that become incharge of keeping order?

Not at all, i mean something more like a vending machine, the price would not be negotiable and it would only sell your products, just like a shop keeper NPC would do only that you could set the prices. With out this as a back up i'm sure that no one would risk opening a shop in the game as it leaves a risk that you would come back to have no job and (if that is what you spend most of your time doing) no purpose to play anymore

I have a question which no one seems to have asked about yet.
In the anime people had a symbol above there head to tell if they had killed people or committed crime ect.
Will this still be a feature as, unlike the anime, killing someone in the game wouldn't really kill them but it would delete there character. Assuming a really high level could freely kill low levels it may cause allot of rage on the game as with out the sense of morality stopping people killing it could be a down hill spiral!

I guess this really depends on how many players the game has as well as how many people willing to open shops. Unlike the anime were they where trapped so they spent all there time doing there job, people won't always be on-line sometimes for large amounts of time (e.g. Holiday), what could be a feature is the ability to make object like food then give them to a NPC that will sell them for you when you won't be on-line, this would keep the players job alive but not mean that they go out of business because they cant log on for a week

The one feature that i am looking forward to is the idea of not having NPC's for shops ect and having players open and run shops, assuming this runs with a nerve gear like technology it would allows people to use real life skills in the game such as cooking ect!

Compared to high grade AI programming the practitionor side of computing is rather basic and if you disagree then you don't know much about Artificial Intelligence or Robotic s. Hmm I like it trying to big your self up at the end, its not working. Well then good bye and good riddance please refrain from returning :)

I've done a year and a few months professional work before that I've been coding since I was 12, and yes the rest of computing science is rather basic programmyis by far the most complex job within the computing field , and as for my grammer you blame that on the fact I'm having to argue with you via my mobile and the keyboard is fairly small

I doute that's 8 professional years or any professional work at all, as for my age I was bumped up and past my alevels 2 years early and due to my impressive past work managed to get a job on a 2 year contract to prepare and save money for uni... First I'm not following, I'm currently working and helping with it, second what experience do you have in the field, considering I am a full time AI programmer and I don't mean a bedroom programmer I mean a professional programmer, also those people didn't fall for anything they found ot and loved the idea, yes it may not work but I don't see people giving up using your own metaphors, would you stop a child building a car out of cardboard? No... Everything starts somewhere, that child could go on to build F1 cars, just like these people are starting and they can achive anything as long as they don't give up, and you are not helping

And its people like you who probally had a deprived childhood, these "kids" as you call you then are working achive something as a team, yes it could take years, yes ideas may change, but first. they enjoy it second. its a challange and third who the hells cares, if people don't like it, then leave, don't waste your oh so valuble time being an idiot about it, you must have to much free time!

I was just reading all those comments and just for future reference in case anyone else feels like coming back to put everyone down, age does not effect the skill people are at, i've seen some 13 year old on forums with skills far beyond my own and i'm 17 and work as a full time programmer in the UK. So please if you want to comment on the game, i think everyone would like to hear feed back, but it's best if you wait till the end result to make a comment on peoples skill levels!
And as far as the issue goes with protected IP's, the number one game on this website is a Pokemon Online game which is the same boat and as far as support goes, this project ranks around 10th out of all of them, i don't think we need a private investor when we has everyone else behind us on this!

I believe this may be what you're looking for Futuretimeline.net
Also the current game engines would never be compatible with it even if it did come out, transferring people minds into a computer like they do in the anime brings a whole new side of security and encryption issues not to mention a whole now form of game controls.
I am really looking forward to this game but i will agree, something like nerve gear wouldn't be brought out any time soon even if it was invented tomorrow due to the legal matters behind it.
