It DOESN'T mean a steamkey, i.e. can be activated on steam. It means you DO need to create a steam account and download and install steam(works) in order to run the game (and all that comes with that). Which btw doesn't have an option to disable at startup so runs all the time not just when you want to play the game(unless u use msconfig etc to disable it).

There is a demo(of the battle portion anyhow). There's a list of links for it on their website.
