A Linux version is foreseen and some folks have already compiled the source files (which are open-source) under Ubuntu.
We are planning to release the demo under windows in the coming weeks. Until we release an official linux version, if you want, you can try to compile the source yourself like they have done on this website :

Yeah, we don't have much time to spend on HS. But still, we hope to release a demo soon (not many things left to do).

We are aware that the old version of the game does that sometime (it can happen that the configuration file goes bad) but we won't make a fix since the real game demo should be released soon.

No, the game is only amateur and serve as a portfolio for some of our developer's career. The game is open-source and free.

Our current goal is to finish the demo version and, if we have success, we will try to add more content with the help of other graphic designer.
Right now, our programmer is debugging some errors in the quest engine and we are waiting for the remaining graphics.

We are almost done with the demo but our main 2D graphic designer didn't send us news for some time now, so we are a bit stuck without him.

It's not the same kind of gameplay. Baldur's Gate is a pure RPG in the D&D bloodline whereas Holyspirit is a Hack'n Slash/Rogue-Like inspired by Diablo first of the name.

We can't announce a release date as we are amateur and only spend our free time on it. We hope to release the demo before the end of the month but we are also tributary of external helpers (sound designer, 2D graphist, ...).

The multiplayer works by direct IP so it's mainly for LAN but you can play through Hamachi to emulate a local network. My brother have played with our Ukrainian helper and it seemed to be playable enough (still, we will have to improve the network algorithm).

It's strange but why not, I know there were a lot of stupid bugs on this old version. Also, the english version didn't have all the proper translation (when one is missing, it just displays "error"). The new version will be in french, english, russian, ukrainian and spanish (and maybe other languages if we find someone able to translate).

It seems like a lot of people are experiencing problem to start the game. It musts be an incompatibility problem with the hardware/software since its the same release for everyone and it works for most people.
We don't really have much time to work on the launcher right now as we are working on the demo. But, as soon as we have it done, our programmer will take a look at all those problem.

Yes and the demo to come is already translated in Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish (and will maybe be in German too but not sure).

In fact, the first name of the project was "The path to damnation" but then a ex-member of our team proposed "Holyspirit" in a single word which looked nice to us.

But the fact is, we got a new scenarist who changed a lot about the background and the story and now the name don't fit as well as back then.

I don't know exactly what it would cost us to change the name so I will discuss it with the rest of my team (We have used Holyspirit for five years now and all our fan community is used to it).

Still, I like your idea !

Yeah, we never pretended to have better graphisms than Diablo III. They have dozens of professional graphic designer who have been working around the clock for years.

The only thing about graphics is that ours are darker than the one in Diablo III (more like in the first Diablo).

We started developing this game five year ago as a joke because we are fan of Diablo and we wanted something in the same spirit but different. We wanted something more like Diablo than Diablo II, more rogue-like with some RP in it.
As we are no professionnal of the video game industry (I'm engineer in automation and my brother is currently studying a master degree in mathematics) we started with something really simple and then we added more and more as we were becoming better in modelling/programmation.

We also have been inspired by Divine Divinity from Larian Studio.

Our storyline is inspired by Christian bestiary like Belial which is also a boss in Diablo III but back then the game has not yet been announced by Blizzard.

First, you must know that we already had this kind of discussion on french message boards five years ago when we started the development of this game.
Secondly, we choose to make a game with the christian mythology as there were no other game in the genre (only exception is Diablo III which has nearly the same scenario).
And finally, our game doesn't say anything bad about any religion. The player must defeat evil and demons because his character has done bad things in his previous life and God offers him a chance to repent himself.

We are sorry if the name has hurted you ...

The version which can be downloaded is actually the alpha version which is only a technical demo of the game. We have been working on the real demo since more than a year now and every glitches like the one you encountered has been corrected. Also, there is now real gameplay/quest, better graphics (the alpha version look like sh...) and also better animations. Also, we have added a multiplayer to play in direct IP but we are still working on it (we have made some test by playing with foreigners of our team through hamachi and it works pretty well).

We have a lot of ideas about cool bosses but as always, we lack of professional infographist and so we can only do what my skills allow me to do.
Still, there will be some bosses in the demo.

As writed down on the main page, Holyspirit is only a FREE opensource game ! ;-)
We can't ensure that we will be able to release the full version as we are only amateur game-maker, none of us (my brother and me) are working or studying in this domain. (Only one of our infographist is professionnal, and also our sound design/compositer team)
We hope to release the "demo" as soon as possible.

Yeah, we don't want to put a PvP dimension in the game right now, so it's only cooperative (like in the last video we posted two days ago). The multiplayer mod goes by direct ip (like Diablo II) so you can play by LAN or by Internet (with Hamachi).
When the demo and the multiplayer will be completed, we will start working on a multiplayer chat/groupmaking room to find server.

As we don't have much time to make the game, we can't afford more then one walking animation per charachter. This is why we choosed to make an animation which is a mix between walking and running (it took many increments to get something which do the trick). But I've greatly improved the quality of the crusader's walking animation.

As the main graphist of this game, I can ensure you there will be plentiful of cool unique items !
It's the most important thing in an Hack'N Slash, the possibility to find a lot of different equipment (and we decided to implement a big part of crafting, which lead to equipment you can't drop on monsters).
Also, armors, helmet and weapons have an impact on your character'skin, which is important in multiplayer.
So, to answer your question, Yes, there will be a multiplayer mod (a local server internet mode at first, like an open battlenet and an official server mod after). But we would like better to finish first the official beta demo before programming the multiplayer.

There is an english version of the game (and also a spanish one under work).
You can choose the language in the launcher.
(Sometimes there are parts which have not yet been translated, because we apply the patches first in french. There will be no more such issues with the official demo.)
