Report RSS Release of Patch 4

Posted by on

Alright, today has been sort of a slow day. I basically just packages up all of the stuff for Patch 4 so one remaining tester could have another go at the mod. That took a while, just adding all of the changed stuff was fairly quick, just go into the affected folders, sort by last modified date and take the files that have changed since the last patch.

Writing up the changelog however, that took its time. Looked through all of the fixed bugs in trello, wrote them down one by one and then had a look through the git history to find stuff I've missed. After the patch was released the tester started another playthrough. He shortly reported that his flickering issues when using OpenGL was still present with the reduced loading screen package. He tried the experimental renderer that han is working on and it seemed to be alright.

We still have no clue what causes these issues, it's fine for me and the rest of the dev team with the regular OpenGL renderer, so it must somehow be related to this graphic card. If we have unreduced loading screens instead it works fine, problem with that is the package is 100MB larger and loads slower (if it's noticeable is another question). In the end I'll guess we have to use the unreduced packages after all until the experimental renderer is ready for widespread use. We don't want these issues to occur on players computers.

I've also finished my assignment that I mentioned before. Still have a major report to write by the first of June :/

It officially is, but after the refactoring it would be wise to test the maps again and he offered to do it. Internal testing has already begun by Trasher playing, I'll try to join in next week. Want to clear up some code bugs first.

I mean if someone wants to test some more we are not going to stop them, but then again we won't wait around until he is done either. So it won't delay us in any way, unless he finds more issue ofc, but highly doubt it. He has played it through like five times already.
