Mostly just report writing today, however we did two things.
Firstly I restored the HDTP MJ12 troop since HDTP have now fixed the mesh, so toggling it in the menu works.
Secondly we implemented our own conversation camera to try and mitigate the weird bug that we had about the conversation camera always being pitched too high up. We have no idea where that bug is coming from, but manually adjusting the pitch down seems to counter the effect.
Nothing else is happening really, Harry and John are continuing their playthroughs while we wait for the promotional stuff and I am doing boring school stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to join in soon.
We should all do playthoughs while we wait. All of us aren't sitting around preparing promotional material, so do you suggest that we just sit around doing nothing?
We should at least all have played through the mod once before we release it, don't you think?
The reason why it hasn't been played through is that the game is long an we have limited time, it makes sense to only play it through when it's done so one gets the big picture and can spot any issues with the maps we consider ready for testing.
Beta testers do the wide sweep for bugs, we fix them and think everything is alright. However fixing stuff might have caused other issues, or they might have missed stuff. Ideally we'd do several rounds of beta testing, but that isn't practical for us.
So what we do instead is have the testers to the initial wide sweep, and then when we think everything has been solved we do an internal sweep. We then get to experience how the game plays in terms of balancing and since we know what we intended when we created the maps we also know if something is not right.
Now I'm not saying we haven't tested this before. We are doing tests all the time after we've rebuilt levels and done code changes, but sometimes that's not enough. For a complex game as DX one simply has to play through it normally. That's what we are doing now while we also wrap up the promotional material.
err, ready for release.
err, ready for release this weekend? lol - either way, I hope that you're having a blast playing through your mod and that you're not finding anything out of place.
I've already found stuff, I find stuff all the time. But all of them fixed for now.
Nope, not this weekend sorry, but very close. Stay tuned for next week though, we'll have some sort of news then.
Awesome good to know - thanks for always getting back to me. :)
