Personal Log aboard the Diplomatic Vessel Kofi Annan
That didn’t go as planned. I was never expecting the Klingons to love our proposal that their people could settle on "our” worlds, but I, as a diplomat, never thought that I'd have to fear being killed while on a diplomatic mission (Which in hindsight was rather naive. We were on Qo'nos after all). The Moment in the Great Hall was probably the worse. I've never had that many disrupters, or any weapon, aimed at me before, but quite impressive how fast a Klingon can draw one of those...uhm, how do you call it... path-leds. How in Hell do they fight with those things?
It's a shame we couldn’t succeed. I was somewhat confident that a peaceful solution to this territorial problem the Klingons are seeing could be found, but that confidence was probably lost in the pattern buffer while being transported back up to the ship. Most of my colleges aboard share this feeling of failure as well. None of us say it, but It's obvious: this break of talks could lead to full-out-war between our two civilizations and our odds in that position wouldn't be good at all.
Even though I can't really comprehend this Klingon fear of our nimble colonies along their border, our Council, the Colonization Bureau and Starfleet are to blame for this outcome as well. We always knew the importance of Inverness and Arcanis to the Empire (they do look beautiful in the night sky. No wonder they're sacred), but we wont back down either. It's not like we really need these colonies after all, just expansional ambitions without thinking about the consequences those might have. There have to be at least 10 worlds to colonize inside of our already claimed space, but no, it has to be those two planets. I've even heard reports that those halfwits from Starfleet fired on Imperial ships, although I'm not fully convinced about those. They tend to exaggerate on Qo'nos. If that's turns out true though, there pretty damn lucky that almost all Klingon captain's don't see Starfleet as a "worthy enemy".
Anyway, we're two days into our month long journey back to Earth now. We've already send the Diplomatic Service a lengthy report about what happened. They’re not going to be happy, but what do I care, we did our best.
All this tragedy does have a silver lining: we have to make a stop at a depot in the Regulus System to stock up on full and supplies. Coincidentally, Lauren's ship, I'd have to guess, but I think It's the Yorktown, has to do the same while we're there. I'm already looking forward to seeing her, even though we're still two weeks out. My little girl, It's been so long. At least 3 1/2 years. We've only been in contact over Subspace messages and that not even regularly. They've been patrolling the part of space were Starfleet Intelligence suspects the Romulans might stage an attack if they wanted to. Imagine that: the Romulans, seeking vengeance, attacking together with the Klingons. We'd be screwed big time. Crazy thought, but who knows...
I just hope that If hostility break out they wont be long and that Lauren's ship gets to patrol the core worlds. Far away from a potential war-zone.
