Haha, the Cube 2 engine, one of my favorite all time games! Beats Minecraft any day. Great job! =)

Indeed! I may still end up getting Minecraft (simply for the adventuring aspect) but I'm gonna wait until they lower the price or something xD

And thanks! I'm actually using a branch off version of Cube 2 called Platinum Arts Sandbox (version 2.7). It's basically the same thing, the major difference being it includes an RPG mode (which is what I'm using).

Yeah, I also started with Platinum Arts Sandbox until I got a bit bored with it, then I found the original, Cube 2 Sauerbraten which was a lot more... hmm, violent? Anyway, it was fun to mess around with the bots in Cube 2 and I have loads of custom maps.
In fact, this engine with its great map creation tool is what got me doing 3D modeling in the first place. That was about 3-4 years ago. Man, time flies. =)

Actually, I'm still waiting for Platinum Art Sandbox to finish its vehicle implementation. Now that would be very interesting indeed.

Aye, this is true. When I became interested in game development my first option was FPSC but I wasn't allowed to get that, so I did more searching and found PAS. I have to say, the way it's progressing and the implementations that Hirato and Mike (main devs) have coming for it are pretty neat.

At the moment, Water Gun Wars is being actively developed (kiddie version Cube 2 essentially) and for the 3.0 version, Hirato will most likely include Tesseract, which will add real-time lighting! I'm so pumped for that :D

They're also thinking about integrating bullet physics as well, so we'll see where that takes us. As for the vehicle implementation, I think it's on hold for the moment. The dev for that hasn't done anything new for a while.

Red Eclipse was a neat variation of Cube 2 Sauerbraten. It had some new weapon systems and new menus.

Real time lighting would be a great addition to this engine, back in the days when it was created real time lighting would have been nearly impossible, now however even a simple computer would most likely be able to use this feature.
I'll keep my eye on it. =)

Yeah, that's one of the things I love about Cube 2, all of the different versions!

Definitely. Although since we're coming up on a release for 2.8 (next couple of months I hope, since they added Water Gun Wars), it'll probably be over a year before 3.0 comes out :\

Patience is a virtue! :P

Nice map! :D

I'm getting a bit rusty in Sandbox, I need to build more often.

Thanks :)

You know, with Water Gun Wars and such, you should get back into mapping!

Yeah, I might do that.
I was always bad at making curves, so I'll practice at that :P

Do you have the dev textures from Cube 2? They have a circle diagram that you can copy. It's super handy :D

Description

Another part of my city map.

Obviously this isn't a whole river, but only a section of what it might look like with bridges. Also, I didn't have a good idea for fences along the edge of the river, so I left that alone. I'll get to it next time.

The map itself is being built when I have the time/am interested/feel motivated, all of which come in sprees, but whatever I build is only to further the end goal of making an entire city (and then possibly making a game with that city).

I want everything to be accessible. From the top of the cathedral, to backstage in the Globe Theater, to every single room in every single house, inn, castle, and barn. Therefore whatever I build takes a lot of time, as I put so much effort into making it look aesthetically pleasing.
