Sounds cool, but I don't like dark layouts, especially red on black. Any chance of a layout where the colors are closer to the default ones we have now?

Looking better than the original HL2 stuff from Valve. Very awesome, keep up the great work!

Other, because I don't really care about the setting so much as the art direction and overal visual quality.

I kind of have to agree with Sebastos, they all look pretty similar. Not saying they look bad or anything, it's some great work you guys are doing. It's just sorta boring playing in the same run down urban environment every match.

I have no intentions of starting a fight here, but I feel obligated to say that the comments exist so people can comment on news posts, media, mod profiles etc. Inevitably, not everything one has to say is going to be 100% positive. Again, the maps are looking great, but it would still be nice to see some variety. No, not desert-jungles with flying dragons, but perhaps something other than another run down urban environment. I'm only criticising because I'd like to see an already awesome mod be even better, so there's no need to lose your temper, KiGrind.

This is a great idea, it could get a lot of people who wouldn't normally play Deus Ex because of the older graphics to go out and buy it then downlod this baby right after installing. i.e. myself. Keep up the awesome work.

Since stand alone games are on the Mod Database they should qualify for mod of the month, even if it doesn't really fit. If not, there should be some other award for excellency in stand alone games, I think the authors of those titles deserve some form recognition for their hard work.

1337-n00b - - 23 comments @ Do you think the Hot Coffee Mod fiasco will impact the mod scene?

I don't see hot coffee as changing the mod scene at all, because let's take a quick look at the facts:

-The Hot Coffee Mod wasn't made with tools released by Rockstar, it was more or less hacked game code
-A game's life span is ridiculously extended by the mods that come out for it, Half-Life 1 being an excellent example, publishers and developers alike aren't going to want to lose that
-In the case of Hot Coffee the actual explicit minigame was already in the game, that's why Rockstar and the ESRB took so much heat for it, even though it did have to be unlocked
-Explicit mods almost always require adding new content, in which case only the modder can be held responsible
-The general public doesn't even know what modding is, let alone the inane politicians, so the chances of them going up in arms over it are unlikely

I do think Hot Coffee will change how gaming on a whole, especially violent games, are percieved by the general public and portrayed by the mainstream media. However, I don't see it having much affect on modding. Maybe some warning when you install the game or an extra bit in the license agreement about the original developer and publisher not being liable for additionally downloaded game content. That's my two cents rant on the matter.

1337-n00b - - 23 comments @ Which of the following upcoming games are you just dying to mod?

UT2007 is set to release "Early 2006" according to Epic, last I heard anyway. I'm looking forward to UE3 quite a bit, but I recall Morrowind being so darn fun to make plugins for that I'm gonna have to go with Oblivion this time.

This is one nice looking mod. I have to agree the maps are all excellent looking, not to mention the lush outdoor environments are a breath of fresh air compared to all the other HL2 mods out that seem to focus soley on grungy, indoor environments. Keep up the great work!

1337-n00b - - 23 comments @ What do you think of mod concept art?

Concept art is invaluable when you're modelling something. As far as showing it to the public, I always like to see it, but I don't consider it a representation of the direction the mod is going since concept artists may be more or less skilled than whoever's making the actual in game assets.

1337-n00b - - 23 comments @ Surviving Next-Gen Modding

Good article, and the comments all make valid points as well. The biggest problem I think the Mod community faces though is that, in short, modders are less interested in making a mod then they are in the "idea" of making one. Modders seem more excited about launching some flashy PHP driven website with flash banners and getting attention. Look at Gary's Mod, arguably one of the most popular mods around. Is it anything like a big-time proffessional game? No. Even the website is pretty simple, and last I checked it isn't even at a .com domain. I guess what I'm getting at is that modders should focus less on the glory of running a mod and more on making something fun. That's just my two cents though.

1337-n00b - - 23 comments @ How often do you buy a new PC game? (Choose what suits you the best)

I'm shocked that "buy?" is the number 2 answer. Actually not really. Anyway, I pick up a new game for the PC every couple months. Though lately there hasn't been anything out that really intrigues me for any platform. All depends on the tme of year you know, during the holidays I'll run down to the store and buy 2 or 3 games at once!
