agreed a spartan is at best only similar to space marine scouts in terms of combat capabilities in the field.

Besides Space Marines are literally built to take a beating and keep on going even with half their brains blown out they can still more or less function effectively in combat ... As for Chief once his shield goes down hes thoroughly ******

and that shield will go down fast vs repetition AT weaponry, wich is what bolters actually are in comparison.

Hate to rain on da chiefs parade but the overly augmented super space marines win this round. Not to mention ya kill one and their are plenty more to replace him.

Space Marines beat Spartans in every competition. It was proven several times, that a Space Marine can kill Spartans esaliy.
Space Marines survive wounds that can kill mortal man and they laugh them off. Loses of an eye or arm dosent concern them and they treat it like minor injuries.
Theyre reactions are very close to nanoseconds as they can dodge even bolter rounds and move so fast that normal man only see blurry images of them.
They are immune to dizznes, fatigue, poisons, low oxygen like in high mountains and even can survive some minutes in space without theyre helmets.
The bolter shell is a .75c diamond tipped, self propeled, explosing shell that can leave a huge hole in your stomach and they can shoot them no scope from 2.5km directly at the target.
I could write and write and go on, but in the end the Spartan loses.

I'd take the weakest Space Marine over the strongest Spartan any day.

Heck, I'd even pick a Cadian, Mordian, Armageddon or Catachan guardsman over a Spartan.

That is the nature of WH40k. Its just much more violent and powerful than most other stuff out there, specially the modern stuff.

So while that Spartan is busy loading his halo assault rifle, with bullets that couldn't even penetrate power armor, the Space Marine already has his chainsword out and the Spartan's head is gone.

Bolter shells are actually Adamantine tipped, not sure if that's supposed to be better.

Adamantine is the hardest metal available to the imperium of man. So yes.

The problem with these things is that Warhammer in general is written to be overpowered, brutal, violent and filled with heroes. You can't really compare anything from the Warhammer universe to non-Warhammer stuff because of this.

Nahhh everything is overpowered yes but it is mostly on the same level and is quite balanced and then you have Master Chief who survives everything because luck and the forerunners. Both of them are OP as hell in their Universe and both are brought to battles against Warhammer, especially MC with all his arsenal which the half dosent even belong to him vs. smth from WH40k at their weakest.

To break the 40k one-sidedness, it depends on the individual Astartes and individual Spartan. Master Chief/John-117 is the most experienced, and according to Cortana, is the luckiest Spartan. Other than the games, he has a shitload of feats in the books (Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike, etc.). Chief and a small team of Spartans managed to infiltrate a Covenant space station the size of a small moon and blow it up along with the armada of ships surrounding it.

Most Space Marines, other than Scouts/Raven Guard/Alpha Legion, tend to fight out in the open and have bright colors on their armor. A Spartan does not fight honorably in the Space Marine sense and would either snipe an Astartes from afar or lay a booby trap if they know they cannot win 1 to 1. If it was all about overpoweredness, then Chief would never be able to defeat hundreds if not thousands of Elites, Hunters, Brutes, and Flood forms all on his own.

hmm not true yes space marines tend to battles in open areas as their super senses let them have the advantage but you cannot forget that SM's have had stealth tactics remember the night-lords(are a chaos legion but besides the point are still a SM) or even the alpha legion (also traitor) they had and still use stealth but remember with all their heightened senses a marine can and will dodge a bullet or spot a booby trap cause LORE
