Sorry for the delay on this I'm just having a tough time since I'm sort of the conceptual/very beginning of development stage. *Edit I've thought it over its going to be around the under-dogs of Afghanistan such as the Australians, Danish, Norwegians and even the Koreans. Sounds like you have a good initial idea. Make sure that you get your idea finalized and get a solid team (because you are only limited to what you are able to code/model/animate) and we will be happy to help out in any way we can. -- Semper Fi |

Thanks, and don't worry the good ol' US of A will have some missions more of a co-op/online thing though. My concern is going to be gear worn, uniforms and weapons and thats where I need your expertise. |

Alright so I've got the SOF/Commando Units I'm planning on basing this project around;
Now I'm trying to generalize equipment used by all the forces such as tactical vests and plate carriers, the type of uniforms used examples would be Combat Shirts and Battle Dress Uniforms. The weapons I can do myself but there is a lack of pictures when it comes to certain optics/firearms. |

Uniforms strictly depend on the environment. Most military's have multiple uniforms depending on what region they are in the world. There are desert, jungle, urban, black, OD green, etc. So, that all depends on where your storyline is going. The weapons are fairly simple, but you definitely want to stay true to the specific military's preference...unless it is user defined. For instance, you aren't going to see a US SF operative using a SA80. Optics are another piece of equipment that is dependent on where your story is taking you. Is it night ops? Is it urban or jungle? Certain optics aren't universal, so some don't fit all weapons. It depends more on your storyline as far as that goes. There is no single vehicle that all military's use. Granted, there are vehicles that are used by more than one military, but that is going to be a preference on your part as to which vehicle you choose. Depending on the size of your team and its ability, you could potentially create a vehicle per military. But that is up to you. -- Semper Fi |

Well, I understand the uniform bit, surprisingly I've seen a lot of US Special Forces in the Woodland in the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. I don't think they'd use ACU at all, its basicly suicide unless Night Ops which it performs nicely in. The vehicles I can generalize to Land Rovers and HMMWVs for the Commandos/Special Forces and Technicals for our Militias. But yeah I've got to do a lot of research on the AO and since the story isn't rock solid yet means a lot can change. Also another problem I've come across is the Colt M4A1 versus the Bushmaster M4A3 since I've picked factions that use one or the other which one fits more of the Special Forces profile since I'm not much of a combat expert. |

Well, from my understanding only Colt and Bushmaster have issued M4s to the US. The differences between the two (other than the price tag) is that the Bushmaster has a 1/9 twist rifled barrel which produces less corrosion in the barrel as there is less friction as the round travels through it. The Colt possesses a 1/7 twist rifled barrel which is the same as the M16A2 and is the NATO standard. It has the capability of corroding faster than that of its Bushmaster counterpart, but supposedly the method to their madness was that the 1/7 twist was what was needed to be able to fire the longer 5.56 tracer rounds. The M4A3 however has a removable handle to expose a Picatinny rail for mounted accessories. So, if you are wanting optics, I would go with the Bushmaster M4A3, if you want tracer rounds, I would go with the Colt M4A1. Sounds kinda like a easy choice, huh? -- Semper Fi |

That simplifies things a lot, I could just turn this into a simulator like game since I plan on using the Unreal Engine. Would be the wiser approach, yeah I think a simulator route would do good that way I can make set character models for MOSs. |
