Why does everybody like the Barrett so much, its getting old :)
Still looks pretty sweet though, I can't really decide if I should hate or love it =P

i like it cuz:
1. it looks sweet.
2. despite the age, it fits perfectly into our time.
3. it pawns vehicles and humans (though it was said that the gun was prohibited for use against human targets).
4. it's got big bullets.
5. it's nasty.

so you should like it, until the US army says they have something better than the barret.

it also deserves some redesign...

the bullet is slower thought because of its size and shape i hear i would prefer something that was meant to take people down this wont be effective because its slow without a silencer in mountain tops you will here this beast and its great for shooting down jeeps and tanks dont get me wrong but i dont like hearing people say oh this owns people but doesnt.

if it was a bigger round, it'd be more akin to a low velocity grenade launcher... but can we stop saying silencer!?!?! its a damn suppressor

designed by Ronnie Barrett, the Barrett m-82 semi-auto sniper rifle first began development in 1980, and the first working rifles were finished in 1982.

Barrett designed every part of the weapon personally and soon began to market the weapon out of his own pocket. he continued development of the weapon through the 1980's and soon developed the m82a1 variant of the rifle.

The first conventional military success was the sale of about 100 M82A1 rifles to the Swedish Army in 1989. Major success followed in 1990, when the United States armed forces purchased significant numbers of the M82A1 during operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm in Kuwait and Iraq. About 125 rifles were initially bought by the United States Marine Corps, and orders from Army and Air Force soon followed.
