You can include my comment in the article:
I thought they tried to hard to make the movie appealing to the average movie going idiot instead of the diehard Tolkien Lord of the Rings fans. I hated and still hate Radagast as I feel they completely ruined that character since compared to Radagast from War in the North he sucks. Radagast in War in the North was actually the best thing in that game in my opinion. The open barrels were simply STUPID! Open objects SINK in water if they happen to fill up with water. Those barrels should have filled up with water and/or tipped over which would cause them to sink assuming earthly laws were applied to them. In the book Tolkien had them closed because Tolkien had more than 2 brain cells working at the same time which by the looks of it the creators of the movie didn't:( They should not have introduced Tauriel at all if their only intention was to ruin her so that the movie would be appealing to the average idiot. In the book none of the Dwarves were left behind if I remember correctly so yet again them leaving some of them behind was to appeal to the average idiot and I am curios how they will do the battle of the five armies now that Kili and Fili won't be near Thorin to die. Also I might not remember some details from the book but I am certain that they were not chased by an army all the way to Erebor! They might have been chased to Beorn's home but Gandalf also got Beorn interesting in a story so that he would allow the company to stay not ran into his house like they did in the movie.

Again I feel like this was a decision to interest the average idiot instead of the die hard Tolkien fans that require complete lore accuracy. Also they forgot the RIVER!! The one the company needed to cross in Mirkwood without falling in... Anyone that looks at a lotr map would see that they needed to cross a river. Not too mention that they get lost by chasing elves if I remember correctly which I might not since I read the hobbit a while ago. (A few years now) And don't even get me started on the battle with Smaug which yet again was a pathetic attempt to make the movie interesting the the average movie watcher. Also wasn't there a bird that was to send the message to Bard about Smaug's weakness and isn't Smaug's belly meant to be covered with gems and other valuable stones and metals? The first part was semi accurate to the book but the second part was WAY OFF! I also remember that Bilbo told the company back at Bag End that they would sit on the door step and wait if they didn't know how to get in through the secrete door. Tolkien refers to it near the end of the book when they are trying to get into Erebor. Also the black arrow was an arrow! You know the stuff you shoot out of a BOW not a ballista...

Now stuff I liked about the Hobbit Desolation of Smaug. Unfortunately this list shall be short:( The constructions, props, and locations were really good! I also liked how they included stuff that is briefly mentioned like dealing with the necromancer at Dol Guldur although they could have added a more lotr theme to that place and less of a harry potter theme. That reminds me some of the scenes in the movie felt like they were quick time events. Gandalf casting a shield and Legolas fighting the Orc leader in Lake Town. Overall I liked the movie from a visual perspective but the story was on the most part garbage.

They did chase Elves. They saw campfires and ran for it. But right before they see anything, the Elves disappear immediately.

And no need to rage. There's never been a movie that is a complete visualization of the book(s). Hunger Games? Not very accurate. Return of the King? The Army of the Dead only fought once... and so on and so forth.

They still could have done a better job, oh well it was an okay movie just wasn't perfect as it wasn't completely accurate both interms of lore and physics. I wish I didn't know that much about science sometimes. Now I can barely enjoy a single movie or game without complaining about laws getting broken:(

I totally agree with you, they could have done a better job... if they had made the movie more like the book, it would have been better, they skipped most of the eagles part (in the book, that part was quite boring but it needed to be there, because the eagles would re-appear in the final battle), beorn's part is longer and better in the book (and beorn, in the book, can "mutate" whenever he wants and he doesn't hate Dwarves, he really likes Thorin)
Mirkwood part is, in the book, the longest part AND it has much more content than in the movie. The elves never get to know how the dwarves escape. All the Bard thing only helps to ruin the character, because, in the book, Bard is not a smuggler and the Dwarves do not know anything about him until they are within Erebor. Besides, Esgaroth is not described by Tolkien as an ugly city.

Sorry for my english, i'm from Argentina

Other mistakes:
---Gandalf discovered that the necromancer was sauron BEFORE the unexpected journey and not DURING it:
“Afterwards Thráin and Thorin Oakenshield dwelt in the Ered Luin, but in the year 2841, Thráin set out from there to return to the Lonely Mountain. While wandering in the lands east of Anduin he was captured and imprisoned in Dol Guldur, where the ring was taken from him. In 2850 Gandalf entered Dol Guldur and discovered that its master was indeed Sauron; and there he came upon Thráin before he died.” [Thráin gave Gnadalf the Key and the Map before dying] SO, Gandalf was given the key and the map and AFTERWARDS he discovered that the necromancer was sauron and months, or years AFTER THAT he met Thorin and the journey started.

About that science thing, having that knowledge, also helps you to keep a clear line between reality and fiction, and to don't feel to bad in front of those heroes who does all these crazy things ahaha.

For example: Moria, troll uses a spear to hit Frodo, but he is not wounded because of the mithril thing....

With that physical force, the troll could have surely broken ribs, lungs, heart, and all...

Man i was about to right a comment just like this until i saw this. You said it so much better than i could have and i thank you.

I cant even begin to think of what PJ was smoking when he thought of bringing Azog back from the dead but i have suspicions that it is the same thing as radagast was smoking in his movie.

Also i really hated how he made Gandalf look so weak and unrespected. Gandalf was very well respected and very powerful but you wouldn't think so in the movie. Instead he had to be saved by Galadrial who showed a demon side of her which was so wrong imo. Galadrial is a Noldor and i think if i remember right that she is the daughter of Feanor. There is no evil spirit inside of her and im sure that it is mentioned by aragorn somewhere in the Two Towers. I cant think how she has a demon that hideous buried inside her but that was probably another idea PJ thought of while he was smoking.

---In the book, Gandalf helped Thorin in order to avoid Smaug allying with Sauron. Smaug could't had known that Sauron was rising again BECAUSE HE HAD BEEN ASLEEP (or maybe just awoken BUT inside the lonely mountain) FOR YEARS, but in the moovie (based on what the dragon says) it seems that Smaug already knows that Sauron is rising again AND instead of going to Dol Guldur and allying with sauron (if he did that, he could have killed as many Dwarves and lake cities as he wanted) he goes to burn a poor and little city by the lake in the middle of nowhere (a stupid thing, makes no sense because Smaug is supposed to be very intelligent) :
“To resist any force that Sauron might send to regain the northern passes in the mountains and the old lands of Angmar there were only the Dwarves of the Iron Hills, and behind them lay a desolation and a Dragon. The Dragon Sauron might use with terrible effect. Often I said to myself: "I must find some means of dealing with Smaug. But a direct stroke against Dol Guldur is needed still more. We must disturb Sauron's plans.” ”
Gandalf to Thorin: “ 'Far away here, I wonder if you fully realize the strength of a great Dragon. But that is not all: there is a Shadow growing fast in the world far more terrible. They will help one another.' And they certainly would have done so, if I had not attacked Dol Guldur at the same time. 'Open war would be quite useless; and anyway it is impossible for you to arrange it. You will have to try something simpler and yet bolder, indeed something desperate.' ”
