USMC probably the most pampered military branch in the present history.
Seriously, they bloated from being ship guards to having their own armor, ships and even freaking air force. They need a MASSIVE downscale IMO. The US Army has became mobile enough to make their scale questionable.

They simply be the ground forces of the Navy. :)
The entire concept of a "Navy" having its own ground force is absurd.
A navy by design, should have no land offensive capability (Base guard are defensive). That is exclusively Army territory. The whole point of having separate branches is to allow them to do exclusive to focus on their job. And the only way you can make them work together efficiently under a joint command is to make sure the branches have a handicap forces them to play nice with each other (Army need navy to get places, navy need army capture places etc)
If you mix them up thing get very messy very quickly. And oh boy, USMC has messed up more than a few things.
