As Serbian, and any other European army, didn't allowed any women among men on the frontline, she had to "mask herself" as man. No one thought he was actually she, until one shell have injured her. Then, every single general refused to take a women in their companies/regiments etc. So, one officer have had enough "courage" to allow her to fight among the men and she entered Serbian elite "Iron Regiment". When the war have finished, during the parade, all soldiers, British, French, Serbian, Russian... have kneel down before her and brought down the flags in her name.

End of her life is a sad story: She died as a charwoman in Belgrade in poverty.

Her name was Milunka Savich.
