It's been two years. Latest is that Gainax is being sued for rights. But here is an article from when people had hope

Would be a very interesting watch I think.
There are interesting similarities between EVA and Avatar, which Weta did effects for. Many of the tricks built for Avatar would wind up in Live Action Evangelion, should it crawl out of the hole it's in.
