Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea film producer and former Studio Ghibli president Toshio Suzuki hinted about American screening plans for director Hayao Miyazaki's latest film during May 4's Ghibli Asemamire radio program. The radio episode began with Suzuki saying over the phone that he was in Los Angeles and therefore could not be in Japan for the show. When asked about what he was doing in America, Suzuki said he could not say. The podcast version of the episode splices in an announcement of the program's sponsors at that point. However, the Nausicaa.net website reports that the original live broadcast version of the episode had Suzuki adding the following: "In fact, there was a lot of demand for a screening of Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea from the U.S. So I came here to…"

Director Hayao Miyazaki's last two films, Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, ran in American theaters one year after the Japanese opening. However, both films had private screenings and festival showings just months after the Japanese opening.

Did you check Japantor podcasts 33 & 34 because I just got those and there is some related items to ponyo in them. I'll see what I can about maybe extracting them using audacity for you.
