Xenonauts is a PC strategy game due for release in 2013. It is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games, putting the player in control of an organisation defending the world from an alien invasion. It is a grand strategy game that involves building and managing bases across the entire planet, controlling jet fighters and ground troops in battle against the alien forces, then researching captured extraterrestrial technology to unlock their secrets! Linux version uses WINE.

A lot has changed on Xenonauts as a result of our successful Kickstarter! Read on below for details of Mac / Linux porting, female soldiers and a general status update!

Posted by GoldhawkInteractive on Jun 4th, 2012

Our Kickstarter has been going for nearly four weeks now, and we've raised $114,100 of a $50,000 goal with another six days left to go. This is a large amount of money and is great news for the project, whether you pledged on Kickstarter or are an existing Desura pre-orderer!

This is because the money is being spent on improving the game, so anyone who has already pre-ordered on Desura will still enjoy the benefits of all the money raised even if they've not been following our Kickstarter at all. If you've not pre-ordered on Desura or backed the Kickstarter, why on Earth not? There's a demo available on the Kickstarter page that'll let you try the game out for free to see if you enjoy it.

This is a relatively quick update listing the main improvements that have been made in the last few weeks:

1) We've confirmed that we'll be porting the game to Mac / Linux for release.
2) We've added female soldiers to the game (see image above for a preview).
3) We'll be hiring a dedicated level designer to add more maps to the game.
4) We'll be adding indoor missions - basically terror sites set in underground bunkers or research facilities where the Xenonauts are sent in to clear out an alien strike team and rescue the scientists / local military inside them.

We've also been working on things like the base defence turrets and tweaking the alien invasion AI too - but in the interests of brevity I won't go into them here. You can get a more detailed status update on our official blog here if you're interested!

Um... How do you figure? She's fully clothed so there's not way to know. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

hmmm, maps are not randomly generated? That will n doubt shorten the games lifespan.

They *are* randomly generated. They're put together in different ways from pre-built "map chunks" to put it simply.

While your doing new missions, think about adding a mission to subdue some kind of big alien in a suburban area, with bonus points for less damage caused from you and massive alien.

using wine means you didn't port it to "linux" -- you're just using your windows version and requreing wine as part of the OS. If you claim to support linux, make it a native port (it's not hard).
