X4 1.32 released, X4NDA 1.30 is fully compatible as is
Updated setup guide to specify that you need to place everything into X4 root folder (always place any X4 mods there unless it's logos)
Description
Does your game sound like a live Lustmord performance? Have you been baffled by creepy horror movie background "music" that replaces familiar and beautiful Alexei Zakharov tracks far too often? Do you get a feeling that X4 tells you that the Elder Gods including Cthulhu have awakened and are lurking somewhere nearby? Here comes the ultimate remedy for this problem, a red pill if you want.
This mod patches "region_definitions.xml" to remove all "zoned sound" references from clusters so that those damned and bugged dark ambient loops NEVER happen again. By the way it's fully compatible with any soundtrack mod including the absense of such...
I do think that "region_definitions.xml" file is going to be updated by Egosoft relatively often so before they fix this issue themselves I will make sure you can always get a freshly compatible X4NDA version for your mental health and immersion needs. I'm sure that eventually Egosoft will patch the dark ambience bug so this is a temporary kludge fix which you use at your own discretion.
Don't forget to rate this mod as I've spent at least two full days figuring out how to clean up this mess without any help from Egosoft or community. And of course report any problems if there are any.
Known issues
- Sector music disappearing on a highway after you pass close to enemies. It starts playing back as soon as you exit the highway or sector so it's a very minor issue that I won't waste my time on.
- Sector music ending a bit sharply and not starting again. It starts playing back as soon as you simply move around or enter a highway or dock->undock or change sector. Let's pretend that movement is life and the eventual silence when you hang around the same place for a long time is a "feature" that illustrates this principle. A little philosophy does the trick.
- Poor sector music variety. This has nothing to do with the mod. Try adding any soundtrack mod like my X4 Legacy Music that adds all previous X-tracks. Or wait for Egosoft addons that should bring new tracks. Or suffer. Have it your way!
Setup guide
- Extract "No_Dark_Ambient" folder from archive into [X4 root folder]\Extensions\.
- Be warned that any other mod that alters "region_definitions.xml" or future game updates may require a compatibility patch.
- Make sure mod is enabled in extensions menu (usually it is by default).
- Say goodbye to H.P. Lovecraft "music"!
