A multiplayer fps free-running montage parody-themed dinosaur game with a slick 80s art style where you shoot dinos, kill the other player(s) and do parkour over everything, coming out for PC, Mac and Linux. The game is currently in its closed alpha, but public early access will be coming out soon, or you can become a tester by tracking the game and giving us all kinds of support.

Report RSS Concept Monday #5

This week, I talk about the various gear that will be available.

Posted by on

Well ok, this is the last post for a week or so. Better get started, then.

In the finished version of Volliod, there will be a whole class of stuff that you can buy for your character, called gear (our term for abilities). Like weapons, gear can be bought with XP. A player can have a maximum of two pieces of gear equipped. The ones that require being turned on can be turned on with certain buttons. For example, if I'm falling and I want to turn on my wingsuit in Gear Slot 1, I would press E. If I wanted to pull the time trigger in Gear Slot 2, I would press Q. Gear will not be available for your player right away in the pre alpha, but we will add it in a later pre alpha build during the transition to public alpha. Remember, you can become a pre alpha tester and get the running pre alpha build via email once it's ready. All you have to do is become one of the first 25 people to track Volliod (there are 8 spots left, just so you know).

Ok, here is a list of a few of the gear planned for the game.

Sticky Gloves - These allow a player to stick to a wall if they are up against it and facing it. This comes handy if you need to climb stuff or if you don't get enough distance to another building on a leap. You climb by jumping and sticking to the wall higher up. That's it.

Wingsuit - Pretty self explanatory. Great when coupled with the sticky gloves.

Body Armor - Allows you to take more damage. What did you think it did?

Time Trigger - Puts everything around you in slo-mo, except for the person who pulled the time trigger. Interesting when coupled with the Telekinesis Gloves.

Telekinesis Gloves - Allows you to pick up things with your mind and blast them at other players/dinosaurs. You can also pick up the players and dinosaurs themselves and launch them, which would call for some fascinating and hilarious tactics.

Those are only a few of the gear included. We want to come up with as many cool stuff to put in the game as possible. Let us know if you have any cool gear ideas for the game. Happy holidays!

think maybe some of those things are a bit OP like the telekenisis gloves i would also love one perk slot in and that would be for things such as body armour or increased speed etc. also i love the ideas of the wingsuit and sticky gloves they would work really well with the parkour E.G jumping through a skyscraper window to stick to the adjacent skyscraper or when they think the dinos have cornered you you can dive off and be free but maybe flying dinos could counter ability trolling (i am tangowhisky from the superboss gamess forum)

Thanks for the input! There will be some pterodactyls in the game, and like i said, the gear is basically our word for perks. So there will be body armor and increased speed.

and the telekinesis gloves will only pick up things that are right in front of you

To comment on the first post, I think there should definitely be ways to roll/dodge the incoming pieces thrown at you by telekinesis gloves. THat would make it a lot less OP. Also, would time trigger be in MP? if so I dont think it would work very well because if a lot of players have it, it could be pretty annoying going slow-mo a lot.

Well, it is a parkour game, so you can roll out of the way of objects that are being thrown at you. And the thing with the time trigger is a good idea. It would only be a small area around the player that would be put in slo mo, and there would be a timer on how long the slo mo lasts, but that still could be exploited for spamming. Maybe there should be a cooldown period.

Cooldown or 1 or 2 uses per life perhaps
