Have you perhaps looked at the videos of Elite: Dangerous's planetary footage? They have some interesting ideas for stations on planets.
I've just had a fast look at their latest expansion but didn't find any station. Do you have a direct link? They are doing a wonderful job :)
Well perhaps old David's channel could help you a bit more, and then the live streams they've recently done has a lot of work related to planets and what to do on planet surfaces.
