The Battle of the Somme symbolised the horrors of warfare in world war one. Follow orders, fight for your country, survive in rain soaked trenches and wait for the call; the call to chargeover no man's land to fight for freedom and liberation. Equipped with your arsenal of weaponry, make haste and overtake your enemies; watch over your brothers and god speed. As a soldier in The Somme you are challenged to overtake your enemy's forces. Team work dependency is key without it you will fall to feet of your foes. Listen out for orders from your commanding officer. Which role are you? You decide! From the Medic class and being able to help wounded allies, to being an Officer, taking command to spot targets and mark them on your map to create devastation to your enemies forces with Artillery barrage.

Afternoon trench rats,

We want to thank everybody who voted in the poll to decide the next official media release. Here is the winner. The Russian infantry soldier!

We did want to confirm for those whom are interested. The Eastern Front will be included in The Somme as part of the multi-emotion setting we're aiming for. The Somme will eventually feature as many possible factions as it can handle and have the characters diverse. In the up-coming months we will be featuring content from the variety of 'heads' of the infantry soldiers, this ranges from Sikh/Indian soldiers to Japanese soldiers!

Regarding The Somme's kickstarter, the video capture is done and we're in the process of putting it all together and once we have finalized that, The Somme's kickstarter will be live. We know a lot of people are anticipating The Somme's kickstarter and we want it to be as full-filling as possible; we have a sneaky surprise for one of our highest backers too!

We hope you enjoy the Russian Soldier media release and if you want to visit the image in better resolution, visit our IndieDb gallery or click the image above!

Thank you.

Now, I noticed that the French soldier received the second highest amount of votes in the poll... Any chances of seeing one anytime soon?

The data did provide some exceptional results for us in terms of what players wanted to see. There is only so much we can do in the first release, however with extended Kickstarter funding, we can expand The Somme's faction(s). I too personally am a fan of the World War One French attire, it's certainly has a striking silhouette.

Very nice looking model! Though I can't help but wonder...with so many other WWI mods and small games falling out with just two or three nations involved, I pray the team isn't taking too much upon themselves by including such a diversity.

Don't get me wrong; I'd love to see as many nations represented as possible and I'm relieved to see a WWI game still carrying on well...I just hope you guys aren't being too ambitious for your own good, like so many in the past have done.

Nevertheless, keep up the great work :)

From what I personally have found is that games of which that attempted a World War One video game, haven't had the right game design 'thinking' behind them. They seem to favour the stereotype gore and bloody scenery ( which was there, I'm not disbuting it ) over the true aspects of what the great war actually was, which was Emotion.

We are focusing on emotion and want the players to feel that driven effect whilst playing. Keep in mind, factions that we present have already been pre-decided very early in the development of The Somme, what you are seeing today is the output of months of careful preparation towards developing a steady World War One game.

Keep note, the attempt of which we are trying to do, that is to add as many factions as possible is 'over time', not the initial release. That's what we talk about when we say The Somme will feature 'free' updates/patches; it's for those factions.
