The Battle of the Somme symbolised the horrors of warfare in world war one. Follow orders, fight for your country, survive in rain soaked trenches and wait for the call; the call to chargeover no man's land to fight for freedom and liberation. Equipped with your arsenal of weaponry, make haste and overtake your enemies; watch over your brothers and god speed. As a soldier in The Somme you are challenged to overtake your enemy's forces. Team work dependency is key without it you will fall to feet of your foes. Listen out for orders from your commanding officer. Which role are you? You decide; from the Medic class and being able to haul wounded allies onto your shoulders to bandage them up in your trench to being an Officer, taking bird's eye view control to spot targets and mark them on your map to create devastation to your enemies forces with Artillery barrage.
Trench Rats, attention! It's time for you to be filled in on how we plan to structure The Somme's release!

Attention Trench Rats! We've been receiving questions regarding will we be adding more to the game once it's finished and will that cost? Allow us to elaborate on the term free dlc.
The game on initial release will consist of two diverse gamemodes and four unique battlefields with dynamic combat to hopefully entertain those who purchase the game. We do intend to consistently update the game and we're sure people would indeed like to see their country in game. That is why we want to class them as Free Expansion to The Somme. This means once the initial release of The Somme is 'out there' we will be vigorously working hard on adding new factions, weapons, battlefields and much more to the game in the Free Expansions. We of course cannot do everything we'd like too in the first release because we are a start-up indie studio and the down-side to that is we're working from the backs of our pockets!
The community has told us we should put our efforts into Kickstarter. However, unfortunately Kickstarter requires an American bank account for that to work. They have stated on their Twitter Kickstarter UK will be coming soon, thus we'll have to wait until then; but by the looks of it, The Somme will hopefully be released by the time that even sprouts. We do appreciate you all for letting us know you'd donate, it's a great feeling and we are thank-full for all who have offered.
We do hope you enjoy the consistent media updates on the IndieDB page and welcome all criticism.
We love community spirit, if you feel that the game needs a certain something, then hit up the forums ( links below ) and let us know!
TopHat game Studios has a community forum, if you have any questions about The Somme or want to catch live feedback for the game and our studio. Please use the following contact links.
Awesome. But, I think you guys should set up a donation thing.
Yes. Maybe just use paypal ?
We're looking into it. We do appreciate your dedication and support :)
kick starter *cough cough*
The post will explain why we cannot use it.
You guys know that Desura is an alternative to Kickstarter right?. Use that instead- you're already using ModDB/IndieDB so logically it makes sense for you to use Desura.
Desura is an alternative to Steam, because it's a digital distribution platform, while Kikstarter is purely designed for donations.
Yes as volchonok said, Kickstarter and Desura have nothing in common. Kickstarter you are donating towards an idea/project, Desura you are purchasing a commercial product.
Try and get it greenlit on steam? Heroes and generals was, so with a big enough PR push maybe this could get on there too.
We eventually do plan to move onto Greenlight once a big enough working build of the game is available.
i wanna see the russian empire and soviets :P
