An adventure set in the dark ages, mixing elements of stealth and magic, The Prison at Hal Astralo follows the story of an aging wizard who has been imprisoned for most of his life. Having had his magic abilities depleted down to nothing, the prisoner starts the game with no magic at all, alone in a cell with only a bed and a bucket of feces to keep him company. The player can build an inventory throughout this sandbox-style prison adventure from things found around the jail, and if smart enough, can find a way out. The prison takes many forms...from platforming, to survival horror, to wings of the prison that simply defy the laws of space and time. And with every new spell discovered...every new tool found...the player gets closer to making their final escape from the prison and from the barbaric land of Hal Astralo.

Gameplay footage of the pre-alpha for The Prison at Hal Astralo. Presents opening area of the game, as well as other areas, all in various stages of development. You should watch this full-screen, or in the dark, or both. This is a stealth game with a lot of darkness in it. I tried to set the lighting levels of the video as close to what you'd want in-game. You'll notice the one spell on display in this video is "Levitate". The player holds their breath to levitate. (It's not as easy as it looks.) And of course if you hold your breath to levitate for too long, you'll get dizzy and eventually start breathing and plummet back to the ground. And although the player falls in this video, it's not from lack of oxygen, but by being shot by one of the archers.

Usually I dev alone, but some of the models and textures in this game are made by Erica Claeyssen. So lots of credit to her.
