In his fortress of Shaddar-Nur, the necromancer Shaddar, a pariah of the Band of Mages from Mystdale Castle, plans his triumphant return to the world of Ancaria. To strengthen his magic powers, he summons a Sakkara Demon, whose power he will absorb himself. These Sakkara Demons rule over those damned to rot in hell, the undead. Not since the Era of the Gods have any of these creatures set foot in Ancaria, not since the Seraphim army drove them back to their dimension during the Wars of the Gods. However, Shaddar's experiment fails. The Sakkara Demon escapes and turns on his summoner...

1. General
Welcome to the Kingdom of Ancaria within the world of Sacred!
This readme document will give you helpful tips to assist you in the unlikely
event of any technical problems you might encounter with the Sacred demo.
2. Important Notice and Known Problems
* 16 Bit Sound: Because of the limited size of the demo, the sound files
(Music and Sound Effects) had to be compressed more than usual. This will
become noticeable when playing the game through reduced sound quality.
* Transparency on loading screen: On some systems, when the
loading\saving screen appears, the desktop items can be seen and the mouse will
react to the desktop. This should not cause a problem once the loading\saving
has been completed.
* Unable to change task while playing full screen mode: While playing the
Sacred demo in full screen mode you will be unable to switch to desktop using
the Task Changer (ALT+TAB). This is only possible when playing the Sacred Demo
in Windowed mode. Please note: Programs that continuously come in the
foreground (Phone software, etc.) could disrupt Sacred and cause it to become
unplayable.
* True-Color mode / Display errors while using auras: The Sacred Demo
will run with 16 bit color depth. Certain magic spells (auras, for example)
could cause errors to appear when they are displayed, or the shadow of your
character could begin to flicker. Switching to ‘true color’ mode before the
game starts will solve this problem, although the game will run approximately
30% slower. True color mode is therefore only recommended for systems which
exceed the recommended System requirements. The game file must have ”vid32“
added to the command line, which is done by doing the following:
- In Start`menu go to “Sacred Demo“, click the RIGHT mouse button choose
“Properties“ from the menu that appears.
- In the open ‘Properties’ window select the "Shortcut" tab, then edit the
“Target” line after "(Game Directory)\Sacred.exe" and add "vid32" (without the
“ before and after). The correctly edited ‘Target’ should look like this:
"(Game Directory)\Sacred.exe" vid32
* Problems with Anti-aliasing: If anti-aliasing has been activated,
graphical errors may be spotted on the main menu. In addition, the game will
run slower so it is recommended you do not activate anti-aliasing through the
Graphic Card driver.
Alternatively, you can add the command line “filter” to the end of the
Sacred.exe (see above for description on how to add to the command line -
either add just “filter” or to add it to “vid32”). This should help in most
cases.
* Problems with switched Mousebuttons: If you have switched the left and
right mouse buttons (common for left-handed users), then you can click the
right mouse button to move your character (the character moves to the place on
screen where you click) but you will not be able to steer the character by
holding the right mouse button down (the character will only follow the first
click and will not follow any other direction until another right click is
performed).
* Special Move "Backbreaker" for Gladiator: This skill is currently in
development and is not fully functional.
3. Additional Game Description
* Option menu: The two options „DSL“ and „ISDN“ currently have no effect
on bandwidth use. These will be activated in the Release version though.
* Changing between Atributes and Skills: You can switch between your
Attributes and Skills by clicking on the small round button on the top left of
your Attribute Screen.
