Introducing the Pokemon Generations forum! Also covering some plans for updates and what to expect in the next one!

Posted by on

Similar to ZWC, I plan on keeping up a regular journal just talking about what we're working on and how we're handling suggestions, etc. The first thing I'd like to mention is the forum.

Comments are awesome, and we're always reading them and taking them into account, sometimes not even consciously. But one thing we decided to do early on is have a forum for people to talk about PokeGen amongst one another and have more room to give suggestions and hear our (& everyone else's) feedback.

We're still going to be reading each and every word posted either here, the PokeCommunity thread, or the Reddit, but the forum is going to be the main place we'll be watching. There's also going to be things such as contests and community events (should we make it that far) that will be hosted on the forums. I'll still post all of that here, but just note that the forum is the main priority, so that will be the place to look for that kind of stuff.

Update wise, there's a lot going on, and a lot being planned. The plan is to release large updates in intervals of about a month. This next update in particular is going to have 5 new Pokemon (2 of which you've already seen), a large extension of the map, the party system & catching Pokemon, and some NPC interaction. That's not everything, but it should cover the main things which will branch off more specifically in the update itself.

We've already made improvements to the control scheme as we got a lot of feedback on that, and some graphical elements and bugs have already been tweaked/fixed, so we're moving along nicely.

I'll keep you guys posted on further plans, and an eventual release date for the next revision. Until then, if you're interested, drop by the forums and tell us why we suck. Later!

The plan was to release large updates at around a month's time(see above for that) but tacking down some of the mechanics needed to move forward, as well as pulling together a lot of the things we needed to get done for the second update has taken longer than we expected.

I don't have an exact date for you, but we're sure working at it, and trying to get things working.

Ummm... Amazing but I just found an amazing Glitch! I call it Party at the lake. By Going in the lake and facing the edge then repeating pressing Tab you get unlimited clones of both pickachu, and charmander.
Here is a screen shot.

I already posted this in the review section but wanted to make sure you saw my input into your game.

First, I think you should focus On The Battles and Adding New Pokemon(meaning don't try and create the whole world and try to figure out how to integrate finding wild Pokemon and all the different Personalities or Natures). If you focus on the gameplay mechanics of the real-time Pokemon battles, add new moves, and different Pokemon and make it a good solid fight then you have nothing to worry about. IF you get all that down first then you'll have so much funding and support and people wanting to join in and help you make this game great that this game cant be ruined.

Second, the move system needs to be changed a bit. When you're controlling the Pokemon, instead of having to click and drag to move the camera or auto-lock onto a target make it so there is always a reticule in the center of the screen and have the camera follow it(like FPS do). This way you can free up time to aim and use moves. Just makes it a little less clunky is all. Also since the reticule would always be in the center and the camera would follow that reticule then make it so when you select a move it automatically uses it instead of having to click a second time. These suggestions make it a little more fluid when battling and allow you to focus on strategy.

These are just my opinions here. Maybe just focus on 1st or 2nd Generation Pokemon or even both. That way there are less Pokemon to try and develop and a smaller move-set as to, like i mentioned, focus on the battle mechanics. Just an opinion is all. Also with the attacking moves make them have a cast time. Like how Quick attack has a 100% accuracy make it an instant use. And how Fire Blast has an 80% accuracy make it a 2 second cast time. Sheer Cold has a 30% accuracy, so make it 7 second cast time. One second = 10% accuracy maybe? Please let me know what you think! I love to help

Hey this is aa great game so far cant wait for the evolution for this game :D but i was wondering are you going to put voices into this Example: say that when you throw a pokemon out into the battle field your character will "Go Pickachu" or Return Pickachu you did an awsome job" it might be anoying adding voices instead of text lettering but i think myself that would be cool and also was wondering whats up with the purple ceiling in professor's lab? why is it purple not like i dont hate purple and could you add magnemite and onix as beginners starters to please all in all this is a great 3D rpg pokemon game that i'm laying so far Keep up the good work
