Perfect Aces is getting a second addition to the fast-paced poker series - Perfect Aces: Texas Holdem!
Perfect Aces: Texas Holdem will be coming this Spring 2016. The new mobile game will feature updated graphics and improved gameplay with a Texas Holdem format. But in addition to adding a new format, we wanted to ensure the overall game experience was more engaging than our previous games. So we asked ourselves, what else can we do?
We wanted to find additional ways to reward our players. We wanted to develop a system where players not only feel rewarded after every hand but also for long-term play.
LEADERBOARDS
One approach we explored were leaderboards. Leaderboards is a scoreboard, showing the names of the users, the amount of chips won, and how they rank against their peers.
In Perfect Aces: Heads Up Poker, we kept track of "Chips Won" and "Hands Won" but never compared your stats to other players.
We found that the addition of leaderboards added an extra element of competitive play. It added an incentive for players to continuously building up their “Chips Won” score. The more chips won, the more you outrank your peers. As such, it encouraged repeat plays, social network sharing, and a friendly but competitive environment. With leaderboards, you now have the ability to see if you are the best Heads Up Poker player in the world!
DAILY ACHIEVEMENTS
Not available in our first release but a probable addition in future updates in Daily Achievements.
In Perfect Aces: Heads Up Poker, we had an achievements system where players can accomplish 21 different challenges at any time, such as "Get a pair in your hand" or "Lose a showdown with a four of a kind hand or better". In Texas Holdem, we wanted to try something different, tweaking our original achievement system by limiting it to one challenge per day.
By limiting the challenge to a specific time period (daily), we wanted to give players another objective to play for other than simply poker as well as giving our players additional ways to win chips. In addition, these daily achievements will make the gamelplay feel slightly different everyday.
TOURNAMENTS
A brand new feature we will be introducing in later versions is tournament play. Because Perfect Aces is a Heads Up mobile game, tournament play will be quite different than most poker tournaments. Instead of joining a table of seven different players, you will still play on one versus one.
So how will this be tournament style?
Tournaments will be voluntary modes where you enter and try to win as many chips as possible in a specified amount of time. Those who join such a tournament will be put into a new leaderboard of only those players part of the tournament. For example, for a week-long tournament, whoever wins the most chips, wins the top prize! These sort of formats will be elements we will discuss in length over the coming weeks. Not only do we want to introduce Texas Holdem to the Perfect Aces series but also make the gameplay more engaging than before!
