Metal Drift is a futuristic arena combat game in drift-tanks. It is team-based with online multiplayer. You can level up your player and your weapons over time to unlock more weapons and upgrades for your tank. Metal Drift features 56 different tank configurations with various weapon and upgrade selections to choose from. In addition, the drift-tanks have a unique energy system that allows the pilot to direct acquired energy into a speed boost or to power up weapons for extra damage. The game also features 5 different arenas, each with their own racing lines and boost tunnels.

Announcing the release of Metal Drift on Steam! It's available for pre-order now! Early adopters will get a 20% discount and immediate access to our Beta!

Posted by BlackJacketGames on Oct 9th, 2009

This has been years in the making, and it's great to finally make it available to everyone. We wanted to create a game that left tons of room for emergent strategy and teamwork and we're eager to see what you guys do with it!

The game is currently available for pre-order for only $10, which means a 20% discount and immediate access to the beta. As you start out, you'll have access to just the base weapon(s) and tank upgrade(s). As you gain experience, you'll unlock all 15 weapons and upgrades.

Once you get a handle on the tank controls, your skill level will really set you apart. The game is heavily skill based, so as you play, everyone around you should really be able to see a difference. A level 30 player should have no problem wiping out a level 5 player...just based on skill.

We're especially looking forward to the 'core' players like you guys on ModDB joining the servers and really showing us the potential of the game. We hope you guys like it!

Here's a quick sample of the action:

Tanarus meets Wipeout, with a little bit of Descent splashed in. Looks like an interesting mix of mechanics. Might be fun.

I take it you steer with the keyboard, while the mouse aims the cannons?
