We were using 60s rock as temp track, Eddie Cochrane for everything. It was awesome and gave a displaced feel to the game. The scientific explanation of why a high tech shuttle would play 60s rock was that they are far from earth and getting signal from hundreds of years ago.
The thing is we don't want to get bogged down by paying license for that music so here we are recording our own stuff, in Paris.
I just experimented with adaptive music and it adds a lot to the experience. Here is how it works:
depending on the threat level we blend between 3 tracks from mellow to hard rock. The byproduct of that is we tend to keep monsters alive to get a more punchy music. Fun !
