The point and click adventure genre has what is possibly the greatest storytelling potential of any, and yet i can count the number of makers who were really good at it on a single hand (Cyan, The Neverhood, and now Amanita Design). machinarium is a beautiful game. the title contains not a single line of text or dialogue, and yet it has some of the most endearing characters of any modern game; the puzzles give the perfect amount of challenge to make one delightfully frustrated; the artwork is the sort of thing i would pay money for to hang on my wall; and Tomáš Dvořák's soundtrack has tens of thousands of listeners outside of the game itself. it isn't often that a game can do absolutely everything right.
