Important updates including changes to the development team, engine changes, and more.

Welcome to Grand Game's first development update on the mod Grand Heist. This update is a very important one. First of all, I will start off with the most important change to the mod!

Engine Change

We have decided to officially make the change from a Source mod to a Cryengine 3 mod, making Grand Heist a Crysis 2 modification. Some of you may be disappointed, but we urge you to see this as something positive! The new cryengine has a ton of features which source lacks, and are very important for the mod; Support for large open environments, seamless worlds, and procedural destruction/physics just to name a few. Still not convinced? Watch the following presentation and prepare to be amazed.

So this will be such an upgrade for everyone from the source engine and we hope you all enjoy it. While we wait to get our hands on the Crysis 2 SDK, we will continue to develop high quality 3d assets and perfect our storyline.

For all those to lazy to read my comments below, here is something for you to read.

CRYENGINE 3 IS MORE OPTIMIZED THAN CRYENGINE 2, THERE FOR YOU WONT NEED A SUPER COMPUTER TO RUN CRYSIS 2. (Even though you can run Crysis on a budget PC anyways....)

Changes to the team

I will just note a few changes to the team here now:

  • Gandadjajajane (Concept Artist) - Finished her uni project, and joined the team to do Character/Environmental Concept Art.
  • Madhly (Organic Modeller) - Prepared to make 3d organic models from Gandadjajajane's concept art.

This brings the total development team size to 8 members.

Thanks Chris! But not only is it going to look better, it's going to perform better! Source could not handle the maps we were making, but with CE3 we will be able to make huge open and seamless worlds!

I like that video, the engine looks great. I think this mod will go far with this engine. Especially because it's not out yet, so you can spend your time on story and perfecting your assets. I think that this is great!

I seriously dont get why everyone is so close minded about this change. I mean think about all the advantages we get for switching like mentioned in the article. And admit it, source is getting old and doesnt have CLOSE to all the features/physics that other engines have.
And compare a blocky map from like HL2 with maps in Crysis for example.. see what i mean?
And to untrack just because were switching? that doesnt make much sense because i mean, we will still be in developement. Its not like we will change the whole story and stuff just because of a new engine.
Sure the source engine had its good run in 05 - 07 and its an excellent engine in many ways but now its almost the only engine that hasnt been improved much since then. But thanks for all the support from the guys that also realized that this was a good move.

Lol yea have fun doing high-quality models with a 15 member team and trying to keep up with the engine quality. Btw, I dont think that crysis jungle looks better then hl2's maps... Again, I wanna see how you gonna do all the urban environments on cry3. Lets say, I'm goin to w8 about 6 years for this mod to be finished.

Seriously, you are one negative person.. First of all we have 8 members and saying we can't keep up with the engine quality is just one big insult to us. Almost every single member on our team has graduated with bachelors/masters in game design or game art and are very talented. If you don't think Crysis jungles looks better than hl2 environments, then you should go to a doctor and get your eyes checked out. Also we are going to have no problem doing urban environments on cry3. What's so difficult about that?

Also, why are you going to wait 6 years for the mod to be finished?? We are working very fast behind the scenes and have already accomplished so much. So stop leaving immature comments about things you don't know.

Why won't you get the new Crysis? I predict that there are going to be loads of mods coming out for it with an improved and optimized engine, improved and simplified SDK, and so much more! More people will be able to run the new crysis from the fast that CE3 is so much more optimized than CE2.

Ok, do you guys even read what I have been saying? Let me put it in bold so you all see it this time.

THE ENGINE THAT CRYSIS 2 IS RUNNING ON IS MORE OPTIMIZED THAN THE SECOND ENGINE, THERE FOR MORE PEOPLE WILL BE ABLE TO RUN THE GAME.

Maybe now some of you will read it this time.

Okay, it's gonna be more optmized, but if you can't run crysis with decent graphics and decend framerate, crysis 2 won't work. They have improved the new engine, that means even if it's well optimized, you need a next-gen computer to play it. Or you need to change everything to low.
Anyway i'm not planning to buy crysis 2 (not only for the graphics, i got an old p4 processor), i don't even want it.

That's all fine and well, but once again you don't understand. Crytek specifically said in a PCGamer article I read that they wanted to make the next games to where more people can play them. And pcgamer made a budget pc as an experiment, and it ran the game just fine.

A budget pc can run crysis 1 on low, ok, but if i want to play crysis 2 on medium, i need to upgrade.
"the next games to where more people can play them" i think it's because the new engine is supporting ps3 and x360.
And we don't even know when crysis 2 will be released.
I must say that i found the brutal engine change strange, why didn't you started modding on the cry engine 2 instead of source ?
I stopped tracking because i won't buy Crysis 2, that's all.
Good luck to your team.

Maybe because Crysis 2 wasn't announced when we started creating grand heist is the reason why we didn't start as a Crysis 2 mod.. Also while we are trying to let everyone play the mod, we thought it would be a better move to attract the hard core pc gamers who will be able to run the game just fine. I know this may not seem like a smart idea, but it's the direction we wanted to head in.

Also, the only reason I seem to get angry is because of all this negativity about an engine switch. Honostly, I track mods that I don't think I am going to play. I track things sometimes just because I want to see where they go and if they succeed. And it's perfectly understandable that you won't get the game, but who knows, in the future, you may own a copy of Crysis 2. I expect that the new crysis is going to be modded heavily by a lot of modding teams with all it's rich features.

Ok this is ridiculous! why are you all like Hurr Durr! its crysis omgwtfbbq i needz nasa super computer to run that game.. NO! no you dont ffs! any 500$ pc bought at Walmart can run the game so you ppl need to stop living with your stone age pc's and upgrade them. (my guess is that it would only cost you LESS than 100$ to uppgrade it to be able to run crysis flawlessely..)
And as said earlier, even though you cant run it, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU STOP TRACKING? by the time this mod is done (NO, not in 6 years as some tard mentioned)you will not only be able to get Crysis for like 15$ but your PC would probably be upgarded (hopefully)

Hey dude I wouldn't mind if you change the engine although I don't want duke nukem forever to be played in a mod. Although I don't think my computer is strong enough to play it. so I'm a tad upset about that. but I am interested to see how it turns out. so good luck with the new engine, when it comes out, and hope to see some great stuff out of you lot!
