Hi everyone! Our settlement-building sim keeps evolving.
At the beginning of development we used very simplistic, procedural UI. On some point we replaced it with
hand-drawn UI, that really sets tone for the whole game.
Now it's time to do the same thing with animations. We started from base building - stone quarry. It got a new sprite and animated worker inside it! Instead of small rocks now there are stone pillars on the map. Those are source of stone resource now 🙂
this our working area 🙂
Why did we chose pillars? That's because of our narrative - in world of Elven City Simulator there are dungeons, consisting of giant halls. Those are so ancient, that ceiling already fell to the floor, and stone columns, that supported the arches, became visible on the surface. We are getting closer to battle system! We'll probably select not JRPG, but something more similar to Battle Brothers.
We also analysed some player's feedback and adjusted mechanics in search of balance between comfort and difficulty. Overall changes include:
- Druid now is glewed to LMB, when selected
- New sprite for stone quarry
- Stones replaced with stone pillars
- Animated miner in quarry
- Extracted stone is now displayed
- Song fine-tuning
- Various sounds adjustmens, added atmosphere sounds
- Tooltips added to build menu
- Druid now have "quick find" button
- Builder now interrupts work in case of hunger/tiredness
- Various additions to engine
In game-demonstration of new building:
Soon we will release another update, in which dining room concept will be replaced with berries hall, and also some new animations will be added :)
