‘Collateral’ is an upcoming game developed by Dancing Dinosaur Games. “'Collateral' is an open world, vehicular combat game for PC set in a dystopian future.” You play as ‘Zack EdgeWater’, an out of control futuristic taxi driver living in the city of ‘New Bedlam’. ‘New Bedlam’ is the visual outcome of today’s wealth distribution, the wealthy corporations became wealthier and the poor became the scum. The corporations where left to build skyscrapers and earn well beyond their needs and control those who are below them, one such corporation is known as ‘Nor Industries’ (Nor). The alpha does not explore how these corporations (or factions) exist in the game, I did not even know they existed (other than the countless advertisements found) until I conducted some research into the game.

During Dancing Dinosaur’s Kickstarter campaign they attached a video describing the interactions of the different factions and the major goal within the game. Although these factions were only slightly observed within the Alpha, I am already waiting for them to appear in later releases.

During gameplay I only noticed a few glitches (which involved me of continuously ramming into the Clown’s Mouth from inside the building, *I laugh at small things), and only experienced latency in parts of the city, however I will dismiss both as i acknowledge it is only in alpha stage.

The game draws great inspiration from classic games such as ‘Crazy Taxi’ and ‘Blade Runner’, and offers enough diversity in missions to keep the player entertained. The texturing whilst repetitive was bright and dynamic and marvellously took on the theme of dystopia with a ‘NeoTokyo’ look. The controls were fluent and easy to use even when rocketing through the city.
