Civilization I is the 2.6 MB DOS game that started it all. What was originally a take-off of simcity became a gaming masterpiece that would go on to conquer the gaming industry, leaving a best-selling series of games and an unforgettable legacy in its wake.

Post feature Report RSS Playing Sid Meier's Civilization 1 in HD tour with mods & scenarios

As part of the recent Sid Meier's Civilization 30th anniversary celebrations I released a video years in the making showing people how they can play the good old 1991 classic Sid Meier’s Civilization 1 in HD with mods and some cool scenarios from here on ModDB. I also made some separate bonus episodes on how to play as the barbarians and show off some of the not so commonly known console conversions of Civ1 too.

This main episode is the first in a huge series I’m making showing how every Civilization genre game can be played in HD along with showcasing some of the best scenarios and mods out there from ModDB. Civ1 in HD is achieved by using CivWin (not CivNet) and a virtual machine along with Honza's DOS Graphics for CivWin mod and my CivWin Soundtrack Overhaul mod hosted here at ModDB.

The first bonus video goes into much more detail on how to play as the normally unplayable Barbarians 8th Civilization slot via hacks and cheats in Sid Meier's Civilization 1. This is also the first episode in a special bonus series where I try to play as Barbarians in every Civilization genre game I can. I've also released this Barbarian game as a scenario here on ModDB!

The second bonus video shows you more of Autumn Leaf's awesome Dune Arrakis scenario for Sid Meier's Civilization 1. This is also the first episode in a special bonus series where I play Dune universe themed scenarios for every Civilization genre game I can. I've preserved a copy of this scenario here on ModDB along with many other cool rarely seen Civ1 scenarios.

The third bonus video shows you some of the not so commonly known console conversions of Sid Meier's Civilization 1, such as the Super Nintendo SNES version and the very different 2.5D isometric Sony Playstation version (made from a equally rare Sega Saturn version) as well as a quick preview of a fan made Sega Genesis Megadrive version in the making. This is also the first episode in a special bonus series where I try out mobile & console conversions of every Civilization genre game I can.

If any of the mods, scenarios and map editors are of interest to you or you want to see a guide on how to setup a virtual machine to run Civilization for Windows (CivWin not CivNet) then I’ve setup huge information threads on multiple sites to ensure fans can find and enjoy these mods and guides for years to come. :)
